These stupid parades remind me of one guy in high school who would make some mention of his Irish heritage in nearly every conversation. Imagine Blake's monomania for Buddhism and then transform that into a man obsessed with being Irish, as if it made him a unique flower or something.

Even the slightest mention of Ireland would send him into a excited frenzy where he would proceed to lecture people in our class about being Irish. His only friend was some bald ogre sub-human who worked at a haunted house for children because his appearance was so grotesque, it was the only job available for him.

Christ, that was an awful class.

I'll pass. I have plenty of Irish relatives much closer to home to snack on.

Then once a year every USAian with a drop of Irish ancestry starts pretending they're Irish and jigging about in stupid bloody great hats and ridiculous wigs and shamrocks....

I'm not Irish. I don't believe I have any Irish ancestry. I don't even drink. I just happen to have a bastardisation of an Irish City/County as my Login.

I think I'm about 1/4 Irish and the rest is English/Scottish filler.. Most of my family spent its history oppressing the other side of my family.
Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Only a small, local negation, to be sure: only one species, and only a minority of that species; but there lies hope. [...] Stand tall, Bipedal Ape. The shark may outswim you, the cheetah outrun you, the swift outfly you, the capuchin outclimb you, the elephant outpower you, the redwood outlast you. But you have the biggest gifts of all: the gift of understanding the ruthlessly cruel process that gave us all existence [and the] gift of revulsion against its implications.
