      Yes, poisonous fruit.

Our use of torture is used as a recruiting tool by al Qaeda. These new recruits then suicide bomb themselves, killing U.S. troop. Our use of torture increasing the chances captured U.S. troops will be tortured in turn. It also mentally screws up the torturers. And it results in the tortured prisoner telling us lies.

      Good job.

Jesus you're naive. I don't think torture was a big deal when they flew two planes into the WTC.

...at which time, the only al Qaeda found in Iraq was a single training base in the Kurdish controlled north. Since our invasion of Iraq and the subsequent torturing at Abu Grabe, recruitment of terrorists in Iraq has been very brisk.

Probably has more to do with the invasion than "Abu Grabe", chief.

Trying to link disparet programs under the term "entitlements" is sophistry. Defense and Social Security tie each other with 21% of the budget each. Ergo Defense is tied for the single largest item in the budget. Stop playing word games.

Compare that to Social Security which actually turns a profit.

                Then they came for me
and there was no one left
                to speak out for me.

That was the correct order. Recall that the concentrations camps were originally opened in 1934 for communists and trade unionists. This was even before the Nuremberg race laws of '35.

It seems there really isn't a correct order, although yours seems "more correct" than the first one.

Social Security has turned a net profit for the government every year since it was invented in 1935. It's a hugely successful program which is why Republicans hate it and lie about it so much.

73 years of continuous profits isn't really a "so far". The fact is if politicians hadn't raided Social Security and actually allowed it to invest like any other retirement fund then it would be the single largest fund on earth. As it is it is still one of the largest though it can only legally own T-bills which give a wretched rate of return.

Still, even with the President and Congress constantly stealing from Social Security it still has 73 years of continuous profitability. Try to find a company with that kind of record.

Given that the "lockbox" is largely stuffed with governmental IOUs from the general fund, would you accept Enron or Worldcom?

The U.S. has not defaulted on a loan. Not even after the Revolution, when it and many of the states were insolvent.

So, I'd invest in U.S. bonds. ...Enron and Worldcom, not so much.

Why not just bury it in the backyard? You'd get about the same rate of return.
