  • Is it too early to talk of V.P. choices?

    Such as...

    McCain-Bloomberg?

    Obama-Gore?

Never to early for idle speculation. My predictions:

    McCain-Giuliani and Clinton-Obama

Would make for an interesting battle in NY.

      Obama-Gore?

      Republicans can only hope.

What does he gain from Gore? Have you forgotten how he gets on the campaign trail?

This is what I've thought it would be from Day 1.

I think for the Dems, it will likely be Whoever-Edwards.

I thought McCain was going to come right out and say it when Giuliani pulled out of the race and threw him his support.

BTW, those two together are, IMHO, pretty creepy.

McCain needs a 'real' conservative, Huckabee or somesuch. Or, more likely, some random guy who's not in the picture now but is popular with conservatives.

Obama would need an insider, or a popular with liberals outsider; Richardson would be good, or whatever.

Clinton needs somebody who will convince moderate white males to vote for her... Bill, perhaps

Why does McCain need a conservative? If he's running against Hillary, won't he get to take teh red states anyway, and be looking to get a lot of teh moderates and semi-liberals who hate Hillary?

I still think that a Clinton-Obama ticket would be cool.

                          McCain needs a conservative.

Clinton needs a southern white guy. Obama probably also needs the same.

Why does McCain need a conservative?

To actually get the conservatives to come out and vote. A lot of them are pissy about McCain and may just stay at home.

Who McCain picks depends a lot on who wins for the Dems. I think you are right LS, that if Hillary wins, McCain could go for Guiliani and really have a shot at picking up some blue/purple states to win it in November. Conservatives (not counting Coulter) hate Hillary far more than McCain.

If it is Obama though... I think McCain does need a conservative. The right doesn't have any strong feelings about Obama and would probably just tune it out and stay home. If Southern whites stay home, then Obama has a good shot at picking up a few southern states. So the best way to shore up his support in the South would be to pick Huckabee.

                              But he'd still lose.
