Barely ever. Only started eating together with my family when I moved back to the UK.
Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Only a small, local negation, to be sure: only one species, and only a minority of that species; but there lies hope. [...] Stand tall, Bipedal Ape. The shark may outswim you, the cheetah outrun you, the swift outfly you, the capuchin outclimb you, the elephant outpower you, the redwood outlast you. But you have the biggest gifts of all: the gift of understanding the ruthlessly cruel process that gave us all existence [and the] gift of revulsion against its implications.

I think my daughter would say that of us, too; my wife's a downright fantastic cook, in fact. We used to be an every-night family, but these days my daughter tends to spend Saturday night with friends -- and, since dining out is a form of entertainment in Singapore, that tends to take her out for dinner.

as a child never my mom worked swing shift and my dad was never home, to busy in the bars. Only times we ate with him was when he camehome drunk withbags of food at 2 or 3 inthe morning , then we were roused from our beds to go eat. This didnt work out to well for us since me and my siblings had to be up a few hours later to get ready for school.

as for my kiddos now, well at least 3 times a week since they visit thier father every weekend. And just to be fair my oldest gets to cook one of those 3 nights.

Obviously the school is using your kid to gain gov intel on your family that they really don't 'need to know'.

I thought they were supposed to teach them their ABCs, what are they up to with such questions?

The school she goes to is an incredible pressure-cooker; the students tend to be super-high-achievers all striving for perfect GPAs and admission to multiple top-notch schools, and they do not take rejection/failure well; students tend to pressure themselves, pressure each other, and be extremely pressured by their parents (I'm told this is a common trait among leading international schools in Asia; Taipei's is supposed to be even worse). Little Miss Firefly described for us what it was like at school the 2nd week of December, when kids were getting the "early decision" results of their applications to Ivy League and similiar to schools in the U.S.; very few kids actually got in (which, statistically, was inevitable), and the overall atmosphere was one of depression, anger, resentment, and self-loathing. I think there's real concern about both suicide and/or a Columbine/Virginia Tech-style shooting in that atmosphere, and they're trying to do what they can to prevent that.

I'm not surprised they asked those questions. They did the same for us when we were going through school. The teachers had enough problems maintaining discipline so they wanted to encourage parents to spend time with their kids.

As for me, it was about 3-4 times a week depending on whenever the folks got off work.
