I'm sure Bush has been trying damn hard for 7 years to get stagflation and only now has he succeeded in his long awaited goal.

Americans are getting poorer if their anual income is growing less than inflation, not if inflation is higher than the growth of the economy.

And I dont think Bush is too blame for inflation, inflation has increased because commodities all around the world are getting more expensive, the new Chinese and Indian middle class and the oil prices are too blame.

I imagine maybe Bush could be blamed a little because of the situation he has created in the middle east, which has made oil more expensive, and because of the twin deficits, commercial and budget

IIRC we had a thread a few months ago talking about how the subprime mortgage situation was going to become a fiscal disaster. Maybe Bush was too busy trying to salvage his legacy to notice or care.

I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

Did Bush put a gun to the heads of idiots and force them to buy houses they couldn't afford?

Nope, but he certainly could have shut down the instruments that let them pretend that they could have bought a house. Instead he was talking about his ownership society.

More like the US economy was robust enough to delay the natural consequences of his policy decisions. The problem is eventually it caught up to him.

This measure of inflation is very volatile. It's not of the highest significance.

Like Carter said that future generations couldn't expect to be as prosperous as their parents?

Yes, it was to make clear that this measure of inflation can be referenced, but it's not the one I would look to primarily when I think about what's happening in the country.
