Well... at least she's probably better versed than Edwards or Obama. It's not as though Americans' expectations on FP experience could be that high.

For example, who even on the Republicans' side knows what's going on? McCain, definitely; Romney, probably not; Huckabee- Hell no; Guiliani- possibly; Thompson- no.

All that is left to do, is as Huckabee would say, is to pray for good presidential advisors and a discerning "decider" at the Americans' helm.

Thompson has extensive foreign policy experience. He's been working it in off and on since Watergate.

I'm sure, though, that the leadership succession of the PPP after Bhutto's death really supports his point that these parties aren't just extension of their leaders.

Yep. Given that Benazir's 19 year old son is the new Chair and her hated and corrupt husband is the acting Chair, the PPP has been demonstrated to be a hereditary right of the Bhutto family. They in turn picked a landlord as their candidate for PM, in spite of the ostensible base of the party. Representing Pakistani political parties by singular personalities is pretty accurate.

This is a dumb complaint given that the assassination shook up the mechanics of the upcoming election anyways, and given that the lack of international legitmacy in Perv's election.

I'm far from a Clinton fan, but if you read the transcript, Clinton's familiarity with Pakistani politics is pretty decent, and her proposals on dealing with the crisis are solid. In comparison to the freakshow that was the Republican candidates' response. See, for example, Huckabee's opinion that the relevance the assassination has to us is the need for a wall with Mexico. Arguably the most reasonable (generally) among said freakshow on foreign policy (McCain) said that we need to support Musharraf, calling him "scrupulously honest". These guys are total jokes...

Dinodoc, Ben, thanks for the info.

                  -DC.

As for praise for Musharraf, well, I don't like the fact that it's probably not genuinely meant or genuinely delivered, but I'm glad to see some support for the guy- while he has mismanaged a lot of things, if he were to come falling down without a viable replacement, the whole country would follow soon thereafter.

As for Huckabee's comment, it is valid that foreign 3rd-country illegals are passing through Mexico- and it only takes 2-5 getting through to do some real damage to a country... or 16 (was that the number for 2001?). His comments were as reasonable as any.
