Wow I just read some recent Polling info and am shocked to learn that this Huckabee guy is surging from virtual "also ran" to be edging past Guliani, how incredibly amusing

Also Obama seems to be closing in on Hillary, if the media will just call her on out on having voted for the war and in general being a flip-flopper Obama will have the upper hand.

The Repugs keep looking for a Ronald Reagan to come galloping in on a white horse to save them from their current crop of mediocre candidates. Last month, it was Fred Thompson. Today, it's Huckabee but the Repug heiracrchy is already turning on him. Tomorrow, who knows?

You were still holding onto that silly dream last week? Aside from the fact that he's since formally endorsed Romney, as early as last January his own exploratory committee explicitly guaranteed that a third-party candicacy was absolutely out of the question. What reasons did you have to do think this was a lie, beyond wishful thinking?

I'd prefer Edwards to win, but its not looking promising at the moment.

That was a placeholder for an anti-immigrant candidate. I meant Tancredo-like, more than Tancredo himself. The precise name doesn't really matter. I picked Tancredo because I figured that he's more likely than any other individual to fill this role (even though the probability of his candidacy was far smaller than 50%). If he endorsed Romney, there might be someone who's now more probable (but a Romney nomination is probably 30-40%, so that leaves plenty of leeway in the event of a Huckabee or McCain nomination). But I don't really care whose name it is.

And I don't know what you mean by "silly dream" or "wishful thinking." I explicitly wrote in that post that said candidate would get little traction (i.e. ~0.5%).

HA HA HA. The whole point of this thread/contest is picking the right people.

And I may have picked the wrong person in a question that I don't think matters very much. What's your point?

I should add that the spread and the third party vote aren't questions that I haven't put much (rigorous) thought into either.

I have no idea why people are taking these "predictions" so seriously.

Tancredo's position is a moratorium on all immigration for about 5 years, followed by a restoration of replacement rate immigration.

That can certainly be construed as anti-immigrant.
