I'm not sure we've had a 12% gap between the canidates in er.... well I know we have not since carter, don't know about before that, so at least not since 84.

Reagan re-election. Reagan didn't even beat Carter by 12 points. EPW's definitely smoking something.

If I recall correctly, when Gore beat Bush, it was appx. 2%.

Pretty sure it was somewhere between 1.5 and 2.

                          Anyone got the official #s?

Wiki says 48.4% for Gore, 47.9% for Bush. Rufus FTW!

                            Raw numbers: 51,003,926 vs. 50,460,110

Reagan re-election was against Mondale not Carter. First time around was Carter. But you are correct in principle.

                              In 1980:

                              Electoral vote 489 to 49 (90% - 10%)
                              Popular Vote: 43,903,230 - 35,480,115 (50.7%-41.0%)

                              In 1984:

                              Electoral vote 525 to 13 (98% - 2%)
                              Popular Vote: 54,455,472 - 37,577,352 (58.8%-40.6%)

In the 1980 landslide it was only 9.7% of the vote and it took the biggest margin in modern history to get to 18.2%.

There is no way in hell that the country is near that unified.

Few independents will be willing to vote for huckabee in the general election, that along with low republican will lead to the Obama land slide.
