Yea, you went to Memphis at a bad time. It really gets hot and sticky in the summer, but I managed to get used to it. Oder? Never noticed it.

memphis seems like it would be cool named after an Egyptian city after all, you'd think it would be more intellectual. But what I saw seemed run down. I think Nashville might be more modern.

so much information in this thread.
        thanks, guys.

my dad's brother used to live in tennessee. i liked it there.

my dad just called. now he's going to work 0700-2300 on tuesdays, rather than 0700-1700. so he's getting some more hours.

i still want to move though.

Well, I don't care too much for Memphis (though Will is spot on WRT the BBQ) - though that's probably just hometown favoritism kicking in.

Yea, Nashville is growing crazy fast, though hopefully the higher gas prices, et al., will help curb the sprawl before it becomes another Atlanta.

Depends on what part you're in. In the cities? Not so much... since there're a bunch of Northerners who have moved south.

I like the female tennessee accent. I knew a girl at work from there, and then there's Reese Witherspoon. She wasn't actually born there, but her mother was from there, and she lived there for a while I believe.

oh. sweet. i met a guy in DC from TN and he had an accent. it wasn't super strong so i kinda liked it. i wouldn't be able to stand it for too long though.

oh and this whole maybe moving thing is still a secret in my house. only my parents and i know about it. no reason to get the other siblings worked up over nothing.

i think i'd want to go somewhere in NC since my dad has gotten a few offers from there, the weather is decent, and some of my friends live there.

byyyyy the way. touching story, well it made me teary eyed.:

well, first of all. when the drama stuff started my dad said 'i think they think i have family problems. this all started in february after you pulled your little stunt'. when he said that i felt kinda guilty and and angry at the same time.

                        but anyway....

dad worked extra hours yesterday night. there was a 14 year old girl who was brought in because she was suicidal. her mom and step dad were arguing. the doctors were going to dismiss her because she had been brought in twice before and stayed on the behavioural health floor. but she reminded my dad of me so he talked to her for a while after telling her parents to leave the room. she was trying to act like it wasn't a big deal. my dad found out that she was going to kill herself last night. he told me 'she reminded me a lot of you, which is why i talked to her. i caught the signs most people would miss because i went through this with you already. and i understand the kind of **** that you two went through. her mom and step dad were arguing even when they brought her in. so maybe God wanted me to work this shift for that reason. sorry for making you feel that way.' this was after he got back from work. and that made tears come down my face, but not like crying. and THAT is why i like my dad. even though he is wrong most of the time and makes me go to church every day, he does care.

my mom just is afraid of me. maybe not afraid, but afraid that i might do something to get her in trouble. whenever we argue i usually win. if i'm in my room during the school day [[my dad says i'm not allowed to do that]] she won't tell me to go do my school work downstairs. she let me get away with things i shouldn't; not horrible things, but some sneaky things. and she doesn't love me, but she finds me very useful. she is not a good mother, but she is useful. that is why we put up with each other.

i don't care if we move as a family. i just want to move.

Also West Tennessee has a more regular Southern Accent instead of the South Appalachian Accent of Middle and Eastern Tennessee.
