    Let's examine Sloww's original statement.

Was the dispatcher in Texas? You know, the one saying not to do it? Or did the gunman call California 911?

Why would Sloww ask if the dispatcher was from Texas in the first place?

As both of us have already pointed out, the dispatcher was the one acting in a nonviolent manner. If Sloww thought that this incident took place in California, why would he ask if the nonviolent person in this story was from Texas? It doesn't make sense for him to do so.

If instead Sloww is attempting to show that, despite being from Texas (which is obvious if he believes this incident took place in Texas), the Texan dispatcher still acted in a nonviolent manner, then his question makes perfect sense.

Looks like it was the HPD that caused the deaths by not following the law and informing DHS because the two perps were illegal aliens with a criminal record and the Feds were not informed as required by law. If they had been informed, the two thugs would still be alive.

The point was, just because the gunman was a local, so was the dispatcher who was logical.

*blink blink* I was defending your statements against MOBIUS's stupid trolling. I know exactly what you were trying to say, but I was dissecting the way you constructed your argument to show that that was the only thing it made sense for you to be saying.

Sorry, I worded that so that it looked like I was talking about you. I wasn't. It meant to say, Bingo.

                    • At the risk of upsetting SlowwHand even more (or breaking from the traditional exchange of statistics), let me point out this from the linked article:

"Horn tells the dispatcher that he understands his rights and even makes reference to the September 1 expansion that gives homeowners greater protection from prosecution should they choose to confront someone breaking into their home."

Yeah, the guy does not represent every Texan but it seems obvious to me and many others where he got the idea that it would be ok for him to whip out a gun and murder people in defense of his property.

And if it actually had been his property, he would likely be vindicated in a Texan court of law.

Now I am off to find and bump Wezil's hurray for Texas thread...

Why didn't HPD report the guys to ICE?

In term of statistics, which is the information you were grossly mishandling, it means the City limits, those areas in which the City government has jurisdiction.

                            Lets see:
You are wrong in the general number of people in the NYC metropolitan region: its 16, not 24 million.
You are wrong in thinking there is one set of statisctics for his region (it is split between three states, New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut)
You are utterly wrong in thinking comparing the crime rate in an urban area is comparable to comparing the crime in a larger, more diverse geographical area.

Wow, in short, you were wrong on everything that mattered. But why am I saying this, if Dry already pointed out how wrong you are?

Though this is coming from a Southener, tne bloodiest region of the country:

                            Muder rate by 100K:
                            Northeast: 4.5
                            Midwest: 5
                            West: 5.6
                            South: 6.8

Oh, and on a more accurate per state comparison:

So, comparible murder rates in Metropolitan areas, followed by non-metropolitan urban areas, and then non metropolitan (I say rural) areas:
                            For New York, per 100K : 5.1, 2.1, 1.3
                            For Texas, per 100K: 6.2, 2.9, 4.3

So not only is Texas more violent accross the board than New York State for all sorts of living conditions and densities, but for some reason, rural Texas is a LOT more violent than rural New York. Interesting.

In terms of murders, New Hamshire was the least violent, followed by North Dakota. The most Violent was Nevada, followed by South Carolina.

                            • The reason for that is people in NYC don't bother reporting crime. What's the point?
