so what would folks think if someone named a baby bear "Jesus"?
That he is Portuguese
OTOH most christians dont give the name "jesus" to kids.
No, seriously, for christians, Jesus is not a prophet, but G-d himself. Jews don't give the name "Y----" to kids, a lot of jewish kids are called "Moses", no offense there.

Id worry the kid is gonna try to split his bathwater, and will get the bear drenched
Ok, so its like 1992. Well it IS 1992. Someone gives this really tiny bear as a gift to new born POTM (it has like no swallowable parts, its ok) .
Now in Hebrew, al means no, not. Al T'daber means roughly "do not speak" Something QOTM and I whispered to each other when trying to get the other to be more discrete about something, in front of non-Hebrew speakers.
So naturally we name the bear, Al t'daber/Al Teddy Bear. Also named after Al Gore. Al Gore/ Al Bear. Al Teddy Bear. Al t'daber.
Now Gore gave a rousing speech to the 1992 Dem convention saying (wrt Bush/Quayle) in a repeated refrain "It's time for them to go!"
So when we were running late leaving the house, Al T'daber would say "It's time for them to go!"

But I do seem to lean towards anti-islamic due to it's intolerance. Much worse than anything I experienced as a Catholic. Yes, its a generalization
That’s a pretty huge generalisation! My experience of Islam on the whole is that it is a pretty tolerant religion. Or at least it was. In all the muslim countries I have been to (5), each has a long history of tolerating other religions and allowing them to co-exist peacefully. Though in Morocco and Egypt, in the 50’s, while there were relatively large Jewish communities, those have essentially dwindled to almost nothing. There is still however a large Christian minority in Egypt and St Catherine’s Monastery is one of the most important sites in Christendom, not to mention Mt Sinai itself (lovely view up the BTW). They still seem to be tolerated fine – in fact the only people that actively seem to be harassed is the Muslim Brotherhood…
Closer to home however, something has happened in the last few years that seems to have massively radicalised a whole new generation of muslims – this is a very recent thing! The most obvious manifestations in this country is the explosion of muslim women wearing niqabs, and men growing thick beards.
And I do know a few people that don't fit the stereotype so I have to constantly review my thoughts on it.
Roughly what % of the muslims you have actually met or know personally fit into your stereotyped view?
Anyway, the crux of the problem is why some stupid do-gooder (I bet she’s a Christian missionary type) thought that it would be a good idea to go to Sudan of all places…
In fact, I bet most of our international crises would be avoided if stupid people knew better and refrained from visiting such places as the Sudan or Afghanistan (those moronic South Korean Christian missionaries one massive example!) etc…
Go to some other place where people can't read or whatever with a beach – better still, stay in our country because our govt has ****ed our education system up so much that at least a third of our children leave school without being able to read properly! If she’s looking for danger, I’m sure Liverpool is at least as dangerous as Khartoum and at least we wouldn’t have an international incident!
Not sure if all the Dhimmis over the centuries would feel that the 'tolerance' extended to them amounted to actual equality.
IMO, recent radicalisation in the west has its roots in the sponsorship of the Muj, first in Afghanistan and then elsewhere, combined with the rise of victim politics and strident identity politics in the west.
While some will doubtless claim that radicalisation is because of things that western policy has done against muslim nations, I feel there is a case to suggest that it is strongly influenced by instances of the west promoting islamic radicalism as a weapon against the wests' own opponents.

Probably just over half. (my biggest problem is how they treat their women. )
But just like every other classification, half are ok and the other half are ******* i.e the posters here.

At least the "great Hero of islamist resistance", Osama bin Laden and his movement greatly profited from the investment that the USA put into the afghan restistance against the sowjets.
Doubtful if he had become such a threat without the western training and equipment.

And don't get me started on those evil International Red Cross types.

Yes but that half could be construed as all the posters...

Depends which way you decide to interpret it, just like the way some people interpret passages of the Quran or Bible as calling on killing all unbelievers etc...
