Heinz baked beans company decided it needed some good press, so it approached an American bishop and asked him if the Catholic Church could change its Lord's Prayer to read "Give us this day our daily baked beans" instead of "Give us this day our daily bread".
The bishop was initially sceptical, but a quick flourish of a very large sum of money persuaded him otherwise.
Matters progressed. The bishop told the cardinal, who brought the matter before Rome and finally to the Pope himself.
A grand meeting was called of all the cardinals, and the Pope said:
"The way I see it, we can make a very large amount of money and continue doing the good Lord's will on earth with this windfall. There are two considerations:
"One - we'd have to change the holy creed to endorse baked beans for a commercial purpose."
He sat back and stroked his chin.
"Two - we'd have to give back all the money we got from the bread industry."
