The canadian political system is a lot more interesting to watch that the ****ty 2.5 party British system in my opinion.
You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.

We've been there before and will be again. On ocaision we have only 2.5 parties. The NDP never garners more that a relative handful of seats. The Bloc (current 4th party) came into existence about 20 years ago but is having a hard time justifying its own existence these days. NYE mentioned some of the other 3rd and 4th parties we have had in the past...

We could concievably have 5 parties next time if the Greens can manage to win a seat despite their kooky leader.

True. The NDP have about 1 good idea per decade which one of the main two parties immediately steal.

You have to admire the NDP to being able to largely stick by their convictions. Granted, their convictions are often retarded and they can afford to do so because they have no hope of actually winning a federal election, but still.

Ed Broadbent would have been PM had he led one of the other parties.

although it's true to say we have a 2.5 party system, there are in fact 10 parties with parliamentary seats in the UK.

In Romania every ethnic minority other than the Hungarians and the Gypsies has a free MP. (The hungarians have a party with like 8% of the vote instead.)

The reality of Canadian politics is that the Liberals are the only party capable of actually winning. None of the other parties has enough support. The Separatist party only stands in Quebec. The NDP is a fringe left wing party and the Conservatives' main constituency are the genetic and moral throwbacks from the Western Provinces (excluding the fine city of Vancouver). The fact that they can't really win is why Albertans are always foaming at the mouth like rabid beavers (well, there's the inbreeding as well, but never mind that).

Every so often Canada gets fed up of the liberals and has to suffer through a period of unstable government because most Canadians don't like the other parties much more than they hate the Liberals.

Canadian politics is pretty boring really.

That's like asking whether you would rather watch the rotting corpse of a beaver over the rotting corpse of a bulldog.
