Microsoft tried to grab Starcraft's market share in RTS's with Rise of Legends. Any ideas as to why they failed?

They'll never use pause-with-orders in starcraft, because its primary appeal will be in multiplayer."Remember, there's good stuff in American culture, too. It's just that by "good stuff" we mean "attacking the French," and Germany's been doing that for ages now, so, well, where does that leave us?" - Elok

That would be the same as saying that you shouldn't be allowed to pause at all in SP, because of MPThis space is empty... or is it?

2) Your personal opinion. I find ghosts dropping nukes on you and only having a few frantic seconds to find the ghost or try to minimize the damage perhaps the most unfun elements of the game to me. For me the fun or challenge regarding nukes and ghosts is not in the hectic tension of finding and eliminating that ghost fast but in setting up a defensive system so that the ghost doesn't stand a chance. Likewise on the offensive I don't enjoy having to coordinate lots of unit in little time, but rather figuring out some cool tactics to bring down my opponent, and then micromanaging that attack plan at my leisure. I'm simply not good at clicking the mouse very fast. I don't think they should make that an absolute requirement to be able to enjoy the game.

It seems like you want a TBS rather than a RTS.I make no bones about my moral support for [terrorist] organizations. - chegitz guevara

It isn't really "real time" so why does it matter if it has a pause?(\__/) Save a bunny, eat more Smurf!

Blizzard considers reaction speed and rapid thinking quite important skills for a Starcraft player.
Not only you have to outsmart the opponent in SC, you have to outpace him.

Sigh, those of you who need your pause button sound as if you need it in order to win/be satisfied.
I'm alright with that, but to me, its kind of like having the ability to genetically engineer Superman in a game of civilization and just mow down anyone and anything. Yeah, it's fun, but where's the challenge?

But that's still no excuse for not having it in SP. Sure if you ever want to be good at the game, you shouldn't use give-orders-while-pausedThis space is empty... or is it?

The typical RTS AI is fairly stupid, the only thing it has going for it is that it can get its units to do stuff fast. Possibly not using the best strategies, but at least it's doing something.
If you're playing an RTS, where you can give your orders with pauses you should be able to absolutely murder the AI very easily especially as it almost certainly won't have been programmed to take advantage of the gaps. You have to focus on your main market and in RTS that's people who don't use pause to give orders.Jon Miller: MikeH speaks the truth

It's like they're spending time building a wall in a place where only few people go, but the wall has no positive effect as it doesn't harm anybody if people where allowed to go there
So IMHO they should focus on making the game, instead of wasting time building a pointless wall
If it was the other way, that it would take more time to make it possible to allow giving orders while paused, then I would agree on not having the feature in the game, but that's not the caseThis space is empty... or is it?
