Isn't there a Canada-wide shortage of doctors? It does seem like most provinces say they need more nurses.

I have no idea about the breakdown by age or profession. I haven't job hunted myself in a while.

I'm speaking of the obvious positions for counter or service industry help (the ones with signs in the windows). The proliferation of "Help Wanted" signs is noticable.

Fair enough-- I just wondered if there were other impacts or stuff in the media.

here in Calgary for instance it can take months to get minor damage at a body shop seen. Many people cannot find a regular family doctor etc etc

We've had a Dr. shortage forever. I haven't had a family physician (GP) in over 20 years.

My car got fixed soon enough. You in AB have the double hit of not enough employees and too many customers.

I haven't seen anything terribly abnormal short of low wage jobs going unfilled. This was not the case a decade ago.

I'd rather see them cut the income tax even though it wouldn't directly affect me. Last year we had the GST cut, this year should be an income tax cut. It's only fair.

I didn't mean to imply that things aren't generally good across the country, but rather than the only places truly experiencing labour shortages are Alberta, Saskatchewan and southwestern BC.

Define "shortage". Do low paying jobs count? If so, there is a labour shortage in Ontario.

Maybe, maybe not. If entry level employers were raising their wages and still not getting any takers, and the labour market was tight across the board, I'd say you have a shortage. Such is the case in Alberta. When there's still a decent level of unemployment and the only positions going immediately unfilled are minimum wage fast food jobs, not so much.

It's really sad how much attention I'm paying to this. How exactly would they accomplish that? I mean, what got me was the immediate 10% fall in value of my shares. The tax hasn't actually kicked in yet.

The Libs can't deliver on such a promise (not that they will be in a position to anyway). They are just saying whatever they think people want to hear (ie abolishing the GST...).
