Again, enlighten me how Arafat is not a terrorist. I'd really love to hear this one. You seem to be side stepping this issue. I'm obviously blindly following the great GW Bush, so help me out here.

I edited out the abuse, which left a sentence I agreed with.

It is pretty embarrassing how much of an improvement one guy playing around in his spare time was able to make. We aren't talking tweaks here - anyone that has played the later versions of better AI knows it is a completely different beast.

                      • It doesn't matter - there is no explanation that lets Firaxis entirely off the hook, unless they were secretly behind Better AI from the start.

So, will you be dumb enough to buy BTS
                          Yes.
when you can get pretty much everything they put in there with a fan made mod?
In part because they allowed modders to do that, and I think it's a way of supporting moddable games. Furthermore, they're adding some stuff that will make my own modding easier.
Even Warlords really added nothing to the game besides some new civs
                          Mostly true.
In terms of gameplay, nothing is really going to change
I doubt it, since there will be spying remade. Now this is probably only SP.
at least nothing that couldn't have been done in a patch or a mod.
You can rewrite the whole game in a mod, so this point is moot.

OVerall, I buy it because I play SP. I probably agree that Civ4 is not a good game for MP, it's far too slow and more than half the game is useless in MP (do you ever reach modern armor in a MP game?).
Much better to play Dominions III if you want MP TBS imo.

I like EON have attended your outdated and misguided universities, but left because they only shackle my latent abilities and grammatical verisimilitude. Imran, being a cog in the machine of manifest enslavement makes you inferior to the spring of freedom that EON and I are.
Okay, I give up: what's "grammatical verisimilitude?" Verisimilitude, as I understand it, is the elusive property of fiction which stays true either to the rules governing the real world or those of an internally consistent fictional world in which the story takes place. It's the believability of a story either on our terms or those of its own fictional domain, allowing us to immerse ourselves in the action. So grammatical verisimilitude would be either:

                              A. Verisimilitude accompanied by proper diction, syntax, etc. or
                              B. The quality of using words consistently, e.g. not using the same word to mean opposite things, or
                              C. Using grammar as it is used "in the real world." Whatever that means.

So what are you getting at?

                              • From Ming:
He actually believes what he says. As an MP player, he does raise some valid points. And I have no intention of moving this thread. I'm interested in seeing what some of the people that never go to the on topic forums have to say about the game.

Interestingly, in the six pages of this thread, I've not seen any sign of those points. I've seen some general whines that Civ 4 is not Civ 2, and some additional wailing and gnashing of teeth that the designers have opted to shut down the more obvious game imbalances, making the more simplistic "strategies"* like rushing less bothersome.

Is that it, or do I miss something?

Of course, I come from a different camp of gamer entire, and it should be noted that I agree with the general sentiment that Civ4 is not all it could be, and indeed, has some shortcomings and limitations that I do not enjoy, but there are two ways in which EoN and I differ.

The first would be that if I don't like something about Civ, I tend to bring it up in a way that does not insult others, nor create a combativie atmosphere (which is the thing that cause all his threads to devlove quickly into flame-fests).

Secondly, I'm of a large undercurrent of gamers who want MORE realism, not less.

Best game I ever played (including frequent MP) was EU2, a game that would probably bore poor EoN to tears, and that's fine.

Different strokes for different folks and all that.

                                He wants Civ2, remade.

There's probably a mod for that, or if not, there could be.

                                I want more realism.

                                The two are entirely incompatible.

Having said that tho, I will most definitely buy BtS when it comes out. I am curious to see what the new changes will bring, and my hope is that they have the intended effect of making the late game more intriguing.

                                -=Vel=-

                                * - term here used very loosely. It is debatable whether the much-vaunted rush can be termed a "strategy" or no, but I suspect this is another topic altogether.
