  • Will you be dumb enough to buy Beyond The Sword?

I posted this on Civfanatics a while back and I was banned literally within minutes and my post deleted. Apparently anything other than "OMG HOW MANY TIMES A DAY DO U MASTURBATE OVER THE BTS RELEASE DATE?" polls are allows on Civfanatics these days.

So, will you be dumb enough to buy BTS when you can get pretty much everything they put in there with a fan made mod? Even Warlords really added nothing to the game besides some new civs. In terms of gameplay, nothing is really going to change, at least nothing that couldn't have been done in a patch or a mod.

No, I learned my lesson after Warlords and the original Civ4.

Frankly, I think it's ok to have an opinion that someone doesn't like the game. And yeah, this may be trolling, but I know EON truly feels that warlords didn't add much. And as an MP player, I wonder if BtS is more focued on SP and nurfs combat to much so that it will hurt MP

No remember folks... be nice and discuss the topic and not the posters.

How can you nerf combat even more than it is? It's already designed to allow a 5 year old to compete. I really can't comprehend something on a lower level than what Civ4 already is.

No, I think I'd rather be belligerent and post a troll thread in the wrong forum.

Oh, wait a minute, someone's already doing that.

He actually believes what he says. As an MP player, he does raise some valid points. And I have no intention of moving this thread. I'm interested in seeing what some of the people that never go to the on topic forums have to say about the game.

to Ming for allowing civilized discussion.

I am dumb, so I will buy this expansion. I hope it makes MP fun and interesting in the late game, which I find very tedious as is. If it makes it worse, then I will be displeased. All the same, I'm a slut for this franchise, and will buy whatever they put out.

From what I've read, they are going to nerf combat more.

They are making the requirements for cav and grens more... and creating more counter units... they are trying to nerf all the mid game rushes.

                          I'll buy it.

                            Ask and you shall receive.

I quickly tired of Civ 4, mainly because I didn't like the battle system. I didn't like the micromanagement involved with the new unit upgrade system, as I thought that it distracted from the game. I preferred the Civ 3 upgrade system, as I thought that it was a better abstraction. If they wanted to change the battle system, then they should have made combined arms a more compelling option.I also found the religion system to be a little bland. It was an interesting novelty the first few times through, but I didn't feel like it really made a fundamental change to the game.

I ended up selling Civ 4 & Warlords, and I don't plan on buying BTS. I might give the game another chance in a few years if a Civ4 complete is released, but I doubt it.

I don't think Warlords was really a step forward (except a couple of small things that would have been easy to patch in), but I'll no doubt buy BtS anyway.
