Why would they have to go back home? And what's to stop the employees who got fired in favor of sub-minimum wage workers from turning in their former employer?

They'd have to go home because of no jobs like you said in your example.

The thing stopping the former employees from turning in their employer is the fact that the employer isn't going to hand them notarized proof of what happened.

I'd like to not have to go through this yet again in 20 years simply to satisfy you and La Raza.

Are you going to eat tomorrow or are you giving that up so you don't have to go through it again.

You've gotten lazy, haven't you? Are you even trying to come up with a decent justification?

I'm wondering the samething about you as well, che. Especially in light of the fact that I've seen no political will on the part of the government to actually enforce the law we have now. What reason can you give me to assume the law that got shot down would have made any difference in that regard?

That was a particularly inane analogy, che.

Here's a question for che. Should you care about losing the Hispanic vote when your support in the entire electorate goes up?

Following Immigration Debate, Number of Republicans in USA Increases

During the month of June, the number of people identifying themselves as Republicans increased and the number of Democrats was little changed. That’s the first time in 2007 that the number of Republicans has increased. The gap between the parties the smallest it has been since last July.

It’s interesting to note that the number of Republicans increased during the same month that the President’s Job Approval fell to another all-time low.

A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of 15,000 adults in June found that just 32.0% now say they’re Republicans. That’s up more than a full percentage point from a month ago and is within a tenth-of-a-point of the GOP’s best showing in ten months.
The survey also found that the number of people identifying themselves as Democrats fell two-tenths of a point to 36.1% in June. Only once since January 2004 has the number of Democrats in the country been lower (35.9% in December 2005). Democrats gained about two percentage points of support during 2006 and peaked at 38.0% in December of last year. Since actually taking control of Congress, Democrats have given back all of those gains...

The immigration debate appears to have helped the Republican Party while hurting the President and other supporters of the “comprehensive” reform legislation. Prior to the debate, 47% of voters trusted Democrats more on the immigration issue. Following the failure of the Senate bill, just 39% trust the Democrats more on the issue. In fact, among unaffiliated voters, Republicans are now trusted more than the Democrats on immigration. The only other issue where the GOP can make that claim is national security.

During the month of June, the number of people identifying themselves as Republicans increased and the number of Democrats was little changed.

See, you can have political success while doing what's right for the country.

I agree. overly large enclaves of a single ethnic group = deep trouble.

The last immigration wave a century ago was from many countries, no one country dominated. The urban enclaves were small and were in close proximity to other small enclaves of a different nationality and with non-immigrant/assimilated neighborhoods. In rural areas the various ethnicities mixed together; in rural NW Minnesota you could have a Norwegian, German, Finnish, Russian, and Swedish families living near each other in the same township.

The current immigration wave is by far dominated by folks from Mexico. It is that most of the immigrants are from a single country, and thus the risks of huge, unassimilatible enclaves cut off from "WASP" culture.

We heard the right wing talk shows loud and clear out here in California. They beat up their numbers by appealing to jingoism, nationalism, and (yes) racism. Basically the same type of campaign the Republicans have been using to keep their poll numbers up since 9/11. Jingoism sells but it is most certainly not good for the country.
