Why am I not shocked that when push came to shove, you missed the point.

The man was arrested for a purely innocuous comment that someone trumped up into "assault." If someone was ass enough to report Oerdin's comment to the authorities, do you think maybe just maybe his problems might be a little worse? And don't you think the site would have problems too because of it? There's a few people here who REALLY don't like Oerdin. Would they be ass enough and short-sighted enough to report his comment themselves? You want to risk that if they haven't already?

I guess you were the one that missed the point.

I notice they haven't arrested Ann C yet for making almost the identical comment about another politician on TV.

I repeat... O's comment was not a "threat"... it was an opinion that was not made specifically to the VP.

I see no possible violation of any law here... and I still defy you guys to actually find a law that he violated.
The earlier law posted didn't apply...

Drose speaks the truth. I'm not going to report Oerdin, but if anyone else did (or the Feds found it via a Google search), there could be serious problems for the site. Given the mods recent love for deleting threads, I don't see why they wouldn't delete this one and ban Oerdin. It's the only responsible course of action.

Seriously Ming. Delete the posts. (Your choice to ban or not) It's not like other posters (some of which currently banned) didn't try to get owners in trouble.

You got liability. Cover your butt.

Uh, user-generated content is specifically excluded from bringing legal problems for the site that hosts it. Particularly when, you know, there is no actual legal problem involved.

Sure it is but that doesn't prevent agencies from investigating/scrutinizing your servers and generally causing you issues you don't need to deal with.

(By the way, that's an interesting definition of 'liability')

Unless you can cite a specific law giving Apolyton a safe harbor for that sort of content, it's not protected.

Frankly... I have found far worse on the internet. I see no need to delete the thread... and NO NEED to ban Oerdin just because you don't approve of his political positions. Again, no law has been broken here, contrary to what you might think, but can't prove

You don't need to ban Oerdin for his political positions. You need to ban him for threatening the Vice-President (a federal offense) and potentially getting the site in trouble. Such behavior can't be tolerated, which is what you're doing at the moment.

Again... prove it's a federal offense... so far, nobody has.
