  • Pros and Cons of social drugs

Now that I think of it, marijuana would make a better social drug than alcohol. Alcohol makes a person more violent, aggressive, active and desperate so the people who are aimlessly drinking it start doing stupid and silly things. Marijuana makes a person more passive, relaxed, inactive and so people who are aimlessly smoking it are chilled out and too bored to do anything stupid.

Both have pseudo-intellectual "studies" funded by lobby groups proving their positive health effects when consumed "in moderation", but alcohol has far more long-term victims when compared to # of recreational users.

What's wrong with my theory? Why haven't societies legalized pot and made liquor illegal yet?

I'd rather go out to the bar and have a few drinks. Never smoked pot and have no desire to do so.

Alcohol doesn't make me aggressive or violent, it just makes me horny and do a lot of funny ****.

We're talking collectivities here, not invididuals. Averages, not "well I'm like this when I'm drunk/high". Consuming alcohol increases the probability of a person to commit violent crime far more than consuming marijuana does.

And another one! Jesus, are you guys defensive. I say that people who do something are more likely to do X, and you jump on the bandwagon proclaiming "but I don't do X!". Well gee guys, this isn't a GTKY gallup thread where I want to know what you personally do when you're drunk.

I said goodbye to the Mary Jane some time ago, although I'd like to welcome her back one day, when the time is right.

It has the advantage of no hangover, and it makes me feel more creative, inspired, artistic, optimistic, and perhaps deeper-thinking. On the other hand it has the disadvantage of being illegal, and introspective. It tends to magnify certain emotions, for better or worse. Alcohol has the advantage of being gregarious and sociable, readily and legally available in various interesting flavours, and possible to consume with a meal and in public. Being opposite to MJ, it tends to blur problems rather than throwing them into sharp relief.

Ideally, one would be able to enjoy the best of both worlds. Hence, I didn't vote.

It makes me laugh when people form opinions about things they know nothing about.

meh... i hate alcohol AND drugs of all kinds, although i have used both quite frequently in the past.

most people do drugs nowadays to "fit in" or "be cool" or all that other bull****.

With regard to MJ...I have never done illegal drungs, and only ever smoked once in my life and decied that it wasn't fun. The whole reason is the slippery slope arguement on one hand, and the fact that some jobs that I will may do in the future may require drungs testing and I can never be caught in a compromising position.
