Every advance in the history of the world is a result of black people
I thought you were one of the guys who READ the bible, dude.
Go look up "spoils of Egypt"

I see good intentions, but I'm a tad concerned about tailoring curriculums around race. I thought the idea was to move past race. This just seems to be reinforcing it.
Wouldn't it be better to have the whole student body learn about ancient egypt, and then have the whole student body learn about how History can be distorted by people with agendas, and use as an example the "black people never created anything" distortion?

I invite you to read an old history book. It's really bad. History has to change and is going to change. And you have to decide what to include. If the students are black you have to decide what to teach them. It's not messing up history or anything.

I forget, can you get to steam engine while bypassing monotheism?

That's possible though the models I saw of desertification showed that the Sahara started in the middle and then radiated outwards from their due to both climate change and human activity (over grazing, farming, etc...). In a very short time the Sahara becomes almost unpassible via the North-South axis except along the Nile and even there rapids make it impossible for boats to pass beyond the Cataracts (the southern most part of modern Egypt).
We know there was a lot of human movement between the near east and Egypt. Farming might have independently arose in Egypt or it might have been an import (Mesopotamia is so close after all) but we do know metal working and other advances came from the mid-east. Likely there was a lot of trade, conquest, and just plain movement of people so it seems very possible that the ancient people of Egypt looked a lot like the modern people of Egypt. That is mostly mid-eastern. Later on the Canaanite, Greek, Roman, and Arab invasions would have brought lots more foreigner in but it seems fair that the invaders would be outnumbered by the natives. I doubt the ethnic composition has changed radically and that most ancient Egyptians were probably olive skinned mid-easterns just like their modern descendants. The exeption seems to be upper Egypt which, being closer to Sudan, had a larger proportion of blacks and indeed Upper Egypt did indeed have several black rulers in the middle Kingdom period. One of those rulers of lower Egypt (basically upper Sudan) even ended up conquering lower Egypt during a civil war. Most of Egyptian history though comes from the fertile lower part of the country were most of the ancient monuments and best farmland is located.
I thought upper Egypt included fertile farmland as well, and had the capital at various points.

How is Egyptian history not caucasion history? Have you learned nothing from this thread?
I'm okay with black students not learning about WWI so they could learn more about Egypt. Maybe they added something in about irrigation systems, YIPPIE!

I agree that History is always evolving. I disagree that "if the students are black* you have to decide what to teach them." I reject that. I say you teach everyone - we're all Americans, unless we've given up on that - the same thing (excepting, of course, elective classes and higher education!).
* - By the way, how do they decide which students get stuffed into which categories nowadays? Do mixed kids get to pick between the "white" and "black" curriculum, like the half elves can choose between being human or elven? Sorry, couldn't resist the Tolkien reference.

This is pretty ****ed up, IMO.

If I was teaching in downtown Dee Cee, and i had a classroom of "black" students who were drifting off when I tried to teach history, Id be damned if I wouldnt try to show them some pics of brown looking Egyptians to try to rouse some interest. I suspect youre a tad far from certain social realities. Ive never been in quite that situation, but I have substitute taught in multiethnic public schools, and while theres usually not much for a sub to do, Id do whatever it takes.

What if your students ask you to teach them what people like them have done in history? Come Arrian. It's hard enough to get these kids to connect. You want to make it harder. And it's good for them to see that people like them have done important things.

All the kids are taught the same thing. The curriculum is decided by the standards commitee, school board, and teachers.

see this bugs me. Cmon, man, kids living in a place where there are white and black and "mixed" kids sitting side by side, in some more or less middle class suburb, dont really need any self esteem sh*t anyway. Teach em all about inner asia, whatever. The reality, man, is that there are hundreds of thousands of kids in places like Dee Cee, and Detroit, and even New Haven, in almost all black schools, in almost all black areas, who are totally tuned out, and whom we are LOSING, losing now, and thats where this sh*t maybe, maybe, comes in and matters. Go down and tell them about mixed race kids and half elves while they tell you about their reality.
