      2. Dravidians? New Guineans ?

Where are they not black? Americas, where there isnt really a skin color latitude correlation? Indonesia, where the inhabitants were probably migrants?

Doesnt really matter to me that Tiger Woods now calls himself cablinasian, and all the fancy white folks he plays golf with accept that, even though 60 years ago they would have called him a model negro. The social entities created by the one drop rule are still around, even if the rule itself is dead.
None of which really has anything to do with the facts of ancient Egyptian history. It's projecting a bunch of American problems back on a civilization that long since ceased to be, and thus distorting it, IMO.

You mean like everyone in Africa before the 5000BC scorching? Why are the sub-Saharan Africans who don't live in the desert black?

And thus, as I said, is completely meaningless. Ancient egyptians could have been purple and it wouldn't matter.

cause of the need for melanin, shared by south Indians, new guineans, and negritos who preceded the influx of outsiders to SE asia.

The reference to the desert was cause you mentioned the ME. The semidesert areas of what became the Sahara were at a lower latitude than those of the ME, so Saharans being black is not inconsistent with Middle easterners being lighter.

                    • The Sahara is on the same latitude as most of the Arabian Peninsula, as well as alot of India and all of SE Asia. Not to mention Central America. Plenty of assorted skin tones.

its making a statement about one of the facts of Egyptian history thats relevant to the way folks view the world today. ""guys who physically resembled the average modern african american made a great civ" thats a "fact". It may not be of interest to you, it may be of interest to someone else.

I'm not claiming that everything is perfect now and all that nasty racism stuff is all betta. I'm saying it's come a long way, and 2007 ain't 1940. To circle back to the original topic a bit, the professor Kid linked to seems to be fighting a battle that goes back to (at least) 1940.
Why is considering mixed people black racists? I think that more often than not they are raised in black culture, except when they are adopted like my son's mother was. She is mixed but adopted by two white parents. Stangely white people usually don't even see her blackness, but black people do.

Anyway, the point is that some people want to say that Egyptians weren't black because they had mixed blood. I don't really care, but it seems also acceptable to say that they were black since they had some black blood. I don't see what the problem is with that.
And I think he's stretching some things just a tad to fight that battle (the claim that ancient egyptians were, originally, "100% black folks").
He's clearly not. You are missing something for sure. I wonder how you get things so wrong sometimes.
It's reasonable to assume they were at the very least brown. But it's awfully hard to know for sure.
They damn sure wasnt lilly white like you had to be in the time that the debate started.
I've no problem with poking holes in archaic white supremist history that claims ancient Egypt as white and denegrates black people as lesser types who never had a great civilization. That's all well and good. I just don't see that there is enough evidence to confidently assert that we know that the ancient egyptians were originally all "black."
It really does seem like the most plausable answer to me that they were mostly black. I don't really think it's unreasonable to think so. Do you really?

Except it doesn't seem to be a widely held view among Egyptologists. (They don't exactly believe they were white either.) So what would be the point of telling someone a "fact" simply to make themselves feel better in the absence of real evidence.

I'm not convinced it's FACT. It's a theory, and it's pretty clearly politically driven.

If it is a fact, fine, but I'm wary of the agenda, even if the agenda is a response to an earlier agenda (that also projected stuff back on an ancient civ and distorted it).
