That's for Dallas itself. It's ringed in suburbs, that are ringed by suburbs. Average suburb I would guesstimate at 100k, just as a round ease of communication number.

Sounds about right. If you include the dozens of suburbs, the population count is much higher. Heck, DFW Airport is big enough to be its own suburb.

The monorail at DFW says that it's the size of the island of Manhattan!

Which is a nice selling point to move there, IMO. With Dallas being a major hub you can get cheap tickets to anywhere!

I dunno. I never really paid attention to the football. I think too many people in Dallas love football to extreme excess, which was kind of a turn-away to me. I went to a couple of HP games, but wasn't impressed.

Well both of those schools were state champs about a decade ago.

Glad to hear it. My last year at HP, the team had a straight winning streak until the first state game, when they lost to some podunk hick-town. You should've seen all the cheerleaders bawling like little girls over the silly game.

Sadly, I think academic programs suffer because too much emphasis is placed on football. HPHS seemed to have more football coaches than players, let alone teachers, even though the teachers they had were generally quite good. But I think that phenomenon is not unique to HP.

One of the guys in my graduating class got a football scholarship to Harvard. That was just plain weird. He was of average intelligence IMHO, with fabulously wealthy parents, and got an all-expenses-paid education at one of the most prestigious schools in the country because he was good at playing a game. Silly.

Where isn't...London itself it 7million - but if you count all the suburbs it is nearer 15m. Even Hull for example has the same - city of 250k or something...another 250k in "East Yorkshire"...

                          Football helps colleges get money.

Football programs in high school help people get into better colleges.

Bottom line it's just better for schools to support football. You have to change the culture in America to really fix it.

It's sad that our cultural priorities are so skewed.

Football in high school helps a few people get into better colleges. Of course if the money wasted on high school football was redirected to actually... EDUCATING students then a whole lot more people would not just get better educations but likely also get into better colleges.
