  • Anyone from Dallas, TX?

My company has given me the opportunity to relocate to Dallas, TX. I'm looking for people that have lived there or visited and what is the place like?

What are the "good" neighborhoods? Where are the good scolls? Is it really that hot all the time? Is it close to any bodies of water? What's the cost of living like? What kind of attractions are near? What kinds of malls are there? Are there any basements in the whole city?

Just anything that affects daily life and why you would stay (or leave).

    Thanks for the help,
    Tom P.

Texas is the only subject on which Gen'l Sherman (long may he burn) was right.

The tech industry here has been put through the ringer so I'd advise against it unless you can garuntee that they won't fire you down here.

I've lived all over Dallas, in many of the suburbs:
Carrollton, Coppell, Irving, Addison, Highland Park/University Park, Lewisville, and Dallas itself.

IMHO, Highland Park High School is the best school available in the Dallas metroplex. It was rated something like 12th in the nation?

Don't go to the Dallas school district, they're rubbish.

I thought the tech ind. was on the rebound?

Besides, I've been on the bench for over four months. I doubt they will fire me for going to TX when they asked me to. I'll just end up on the bench again.

Wow, I'm hearing a lot of nastiness here. What's so bad about it? "Crap hole" doesn't help me much. Does that mean high crime? Lot's of homeless? Heavy traffic? Really hot and sweaty? What?

Born there. And Texas ain't crap just hot in the summer. And he's right about Dallas schools, try to live in the burbs if you can. Cool city, lots to do, many good places to eat and fun stuff. Not to far off from other cities like Austin (tis where I live) and other places.

It's just cause your talking about Texas. They like to give us Texans alot of ****e here about being from Texas. Ask Sloww, they slamm us alot. Dallas is a pretty good city. No it's not a ****hole it's just Texas which means it gets freeekin hot in the summer. If your not used to it you'll need at least one summer to adjust. Find your nearest swimming hole. Dallas really does have alot to offer from music to fine dinning to musuems to ballet to opera to....you get the point. You'll be fine and when you get to Texas find the tallest hill you can and shout Howdy, we'll leave the light on for ya'll.

Shower before the sun comes out in the summer or you'll be wet all day.
