Roo? New generation GPS satellites began launching in 2005. Hardly obsolete.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Might be so, but that isn't actually interesting. What is interesting is the political control and really, who wants to rely on the whims of the white house ?
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

You rely on it all the time. You think that the WH couldn't bring down your internet in a minute, if it wished?

Besides, this is an awful chilly alliance, if what you are saying is true.

No offense, but think the other way around - europe was controlling the gps system. Would US in such a situation think it would be in their interest to build their own system or would you trust that your civil and military systems was protected and served when needed ?

If we decided to cut off your GPS it'd be the least of your problems.

This is a good question, but I'm at a loss to explain why somebody who for 50 years has enjoyed the warm embrace of the US security umbrella is all of the sudden squeamish about only a small piece of it.

Because GPS just might have commercial applications in the future. DUH!

Well, the wall has fallen and the world isn't as simple as it used to be - maybe the warm embrace of the US security umbrella might be considered a bit thight - maybe a bit unreliable.

If that's the final analysis, then you've got a ton of things besides GPS to replace.

Maybe, and you have just spoiled the opportunity to prove such.
