I'm pretty sure that GPS was designed to be resistant to that sort of attack (the degraded signal is off by a constant amount, but only in a localized area and only for a short time).

Actually, that is not an attack

That method is too slow for an evolving battlefield, but just fine for navigating around fixed locations.

The limitation imposed is to prevent people from using the system against you in battle. That still holds. The limitation was not supposed to prevent people from using the system at all (like plotting the location of non-moving objects or pre-planning routes from point A to point B).

Dan, you're off more then a bit. The US system was entirely paid for with government money while the EU atleast tried to make it a public-private partnership. Which one is better? Why attack the EU while ignoring that the US system was 100% government owned and paid for?

I'm left with the only conclusions being that either you didn't know the US system was 100% government paid for or you're just enjoying a good troll of our EU posters. Either way it seems a good capitalist like yourself would prefer a public-private partnership to an all government solution like we have in the US.

My understanding is that the EU wanted to be able to us it's smart weapons and navigation systems without having to ask the US for permission to use their system. Makes sense really.

He likely has the same opinion as pchang of Europe's attempt at penis enlargement.

Because technically the US can turn it on or off or ****** the signal any time it wants to. The EU basically wants a system which someone else doesn't control. In any event it will be nice to have duplicate systems which can work together in case any satellites get damaged in a future war.

Prioritized? The satellites simply are stationed at a known location in space and give off a continuous frequency transition. The GPS receiver simply locates two different satellites and then triangulates it's position. The Two satellites are the two known positions and your's is the third unknown position. It's just a triangle and simple trig.

You'd think so however it seems the project to declare independence from the US isn't working and is turning into a money pit and an emberassment.

                        SCRAP THE CAP.

It could pay for 10 of these.

Will your French masters allow for that?

Probably a lot more then 10.

As of last month we've wasted half a trillion dollars on Iraq. That's enough to buy 250 of these systems. If Dan feels the EU's GPS system is a money pit then how does he feel about Iraq?
