There's a MUCH shorter path to be found... hint: for the first step, look for a collaboration between Ziggy and band playing traditional celtic music... to be found on YouTube...

Thanks, that was new to me.Originally posted by molly bloom
In any case, Sophia did indeed sing...
The music only link was:
Richard Thompson- Fairport Convention- Ashley Hutchings-Steeleye Span-Peter Sellers-Sophia Loren
Peter Sellers played ukulele-banjo on 'New York Girls' from Steeleye Span's album, 'Commoners Crown'.
In any case, that means that Sophia Loren would meet the condition of the new criteria for picking artists - she sang on a record.

Just a correction to this: "Nothing Compares 2 U" was actually a song written by Prince for Sinead O'Connor, so if Prince sung it, he was singing his own song, which Sinead O'Connor made famous.Originally posted by phoenixcager
Prince covered "Nothing Compares 2 U"originally by Sinead O'Connor

Oh.... and there's a shorter path from Sinead O'Connor to Ziggy Marley than through Enya...
O'Connor collaborated with a band that Ziggy collaborated with as well... the very same band I was hinting at earlier.
([edit:] correction... that wouldn't be shorter, that'd be 7 steps as well. But the celtic band I'm talking about collaborated with many other artists besides O'Connor and Ziggy, so that band is the key.)Only the most intelligent, handsome/beautiful denizens of apolyton may join the game :)

We'll say it's close enough!Originally posted by phoenixcager
If I may presume that I get to choose (in spite of getting it right only with the hint)

Though actually, if you look at the posts, a sequence of 6 or less steps was never made on this round - finding that the Chieftains worked with Ziggy and Sinead doesn't shorten the path from the original 7.
The shortest solution that I found was through Bono - The chieftains worked with Ziggy, The chieftains also worked with Van Morison, Van Morison has performed on stage with Bono, and Bono has collaborated with Clannad.
But on with the game... Rick Astley and Plumb.

1. Plumb appeared on the movie soundtrack of "Bruce Almighty" with "God-Shaped Hole":
2. On the same soundtrack Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones sang "God Gave Me Everything":
3. The Rolling Stones covered "Wild Horses" by Leon Russell:
4. Shirley Bassey covered Leon Russell's "This Masquerade" (no audio/video)
5. Shirley Bassey covered "Where do I begin (Love Story)" written by Carl Sigman and Francis Lai:
6. Rick Astley also covered "Where Do I Begin (Love Story)":

Edit: Thought I orginally found a 2-step answer, but it was wrong
OK here goes:
Grace Jones covered Iggy Pop's "Nightclubbing"
(2nd part of the video below)
Tina Turner & David Bowie covered Iggy Pop's "Tonight"
Tina Turner covered ZZ Top's "Legs"Last edited by phoenixcager; May 24, 2007, 08:45.

Found a clip for this:Originally posted by phoenixcager
.... Tina Turner covered ZZ Top's "Legs"
(Starts off with her singing a CCR song, but moves on to "Legs" at around 2:30 mark. )
That was a short path.

Ok, P.O.D. to Jason Donovan:
1. P.O.D. coverered U2:s "Bullet The Blue Sky". (Amateur video):
2. Bono of U2 performed with Kylie Minogue (singing a Robbie Williams song.
) :
3. Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan made an album together. Here's them singing "Especially For You":
Now that was quite unexpectedly an easy one!
