Sure, you could take all four years of college while in high school, but that rather invalidates the comparison, as you're taking college classes. This is stuiped. Just ask the teacher if he says it is cheating it's cheating. If he says no it is not cheating. The lower divison college classes can be taught well enough at the highschool level. They are taught there to.

It's not cheating but if you had to copy entire chapters because you had no idea what the question was referring to then you're screwed when it's closed book.

Not cheating at all. Open notes means open notes, and you can take whatever notes you want.

Open notes means the test is going to be on your comprehension and analysis not the facts. As someone said, summarise all the key facts so you can find them easily. This note making process will also help with understanding, and make sure you understand the material.

As far as I can see, this is not cheating, but it's a ineffective way to do it.

The funniest was a stat class I had in college.
You were allowed a 1inch x 1 inch page for notes to be used during the test. The teacher would walk around and measure each sheet and if was as much as 1/8 inch larger, would trim it down on the spot, not caring what formulas were trimmed in the process.

I always liked this concept because by the time you distilled everything you could need down to 1x1 you really didn't need it anymore. It actually was a good study method. I would prepare a sheet for tests that didn't even allow it.

Yep, that's exactly the point.

I would rather let students make up a note sheet with important dates on them so that they could reference them in the essays that they write on the exam. Fairer then having them try to guess or remember the exact dates.

On anything else they write, they will have to check all their facts, and they will be more likely to remember them if they write them down to prepare.

I wouldnt call it cheating, i think i would call it plagiarism, since ur passing off someone elses work as your own. Even if they are just notes, they arent ur notes are they?

For instance, in my open-note tests they often say that you can't photocopy someone else's notes.
