Finland was a "friend" of Nazi Germany because the Soviets invaded them in 1939(?). The Finns kicked the Soviets' a** for awhile, but then had to secede bunches of land to them for peace. Mostly territory near Leningrad (St. Petersberg).

Finland basically gave Right of Passage agreements to the Germans during WWII.

Now, what was this supposed problem with Sweden?

My second or third post EVER in the OT.

It's a good thing Roosevelt didn't use propaganda during WW2 and he fought that war exactly the way the Democrats would have wanted it fought today.

Close enough. At any rate, we all know the Finns were Nazis.

Among other things, we neglected to lope the heads off allied airmen that ended up in our territory.

As I said, it appears Rufus didn't watch Flags of Our Fathers...
I think Rufus's point was more that the machine in that movie was exploiting real heroism, not that the movie itself was exploiting it? I'll admit I didn't read the genesis of that part of this thread.

Of course, in the movie, that heroism was still manufactured, since they were looking for the people who were in the photograph, etc., etc. So it's not like this administration is doing anything that new.

                            Arrian No offense intended but.......

Really who was doing the labeling? When was the last time someone was labeled a traitor for such actions? Must have missed the court hearing.

I despise the whole you can't criticize anyone for anything meme. Feel free to criticize the admin all you want. Have at it. Similarly don't hide behind the "waaaah you called me a traitor BS, cause I don't want to have to take responsibility for any flack my opinions may have stirred up." IOW, a very insidious and IMO weasely way of steering topics to only those approved of by one side of the arguement.

To my initial question, who was doing the labeling? Most often it would appear to be self labeling in order to appear the martyr.

Obviously the "libruls are traitors" crowd is a vocal minority, and one that has gotten quieter of late (gee, I wonder why?). But it's still plenty loud, and if you don't hear it I have to wonder whether you're wearing earplugs.

However, let's put that aside and forget all that nasty stuff. Let's instead rephrase what I said as follows:

"When one suggests that something the Admin or pro-admin groups say might be propoganda, one is labeled _____."

Fill in the word of choice. Defeatist? Nicer that traitor, but along the same lines. How about fool or hack?

"Then, when it comes out that it *was* propoganda, it's all "well, duh, it's wartime, propoganda is normal."

Still works, IMO. An O, by the way, that I'm comfortable "taking flak" for.

Many finnish jews were awarded german awards for valor and whatnot... (I quess it isn't that easy to spot jews from other finns, without names like, er, Finkelstein or Somethingbaum.) They tended to refuse the medals.
