While I can understand the use of propaganda, even as a lukewarm supporter of the administration, I do have a problem with calling those that don't agree traitors. It's just silly. America is all about speaking your mind, no matter how stupid it is.

But the opposition is legislating defeat.

Unfortunately that's their right, regardless if we dissagree or think it's stupid.
They will pay the price for their lack of vision.

Yeah defeat wouldn't have anything to do with disbanding the Iraqi military, toturing Iraqis, or proclaiming mission accomplished etc would it.

Ok, enough with Mission Accomplished. Regardless of who you believe about what was meant by that, there is no ****ing way that it caused anything, other than embarrassment of the Admin.
The other things were real errors (including going in in the first place).
Reasonable people can still believe that we have to stick it out, having made a mess of things. I am quite pessimistic about that, given that I think things are too far gone now (and our government is still incompetant), but it's not crazy talk to think that it would be irresponsible to pull out now.

I disagree. It was a very big mistake. There was a serious problem with the leadership and that affected the whole operation. It was leaderships responsibility to motivate the troops to perform and they did a horrible job. I'm not just talking about Bush proclaiming Mission Accomplished on the ship. I'm talking about overall **** up by the leadership not to prepare the troops for what they were facing.

Ok. If you're talking about a general mindset in the Admin, then I agree. The mindset of "it'll be easy, we don't need to plan!" was certainly detrimental.
I think the Tillman stuff was pretty bad, and that can be laid more at the feet of the military than the administration.
In the heat of the battle, I can more understand the Jessica Lynch propaganda. However, that seemed like an administration-driven story.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

You know, the police normally don't tell a murder victims family all the details either.
Sparing a family the details and letting them believe that their loved one fell as a hero is as old as war and militaries themselves. How many parents during D-day got a message saying their son died before he got out of the boat? Or that he drowned because his amphibious tank wasn't so amphibious? Or the opening artillery barrage had a few defective rounds that fell short?
Grow up. And I am still not sure why people thing the Prez and the SecDef have an omniciet knowledge of the actions of 5+ million military personel. Most of you probobly don't know what your kids did last night. Well I know why, its so they can *****.
Like yeah, this wasn't cherrypicked by professional communicators.

Ah, the good old it's okay 'cos it's traditional defense.
Why can't you be a non-conformist just like everybody else?
