I guess I don't go to Dafur protests because I don't think they will do anything. And maybe they don't do anything because there are many like me who don't go to them because they don't think they will do anything... but based on my freinds it is because they don't care.

I think that the US govt has done as much as it has done (too little) has been due in large part to the activist campaign, including the protests.

I distinguish between mugging and murder based on the harm that is being done to another. The more harm you are capable of choosing to do to another, the closer to animal status (and the farther from possible rehab) you are.

I dont know that "animal status" is a scientific category that is capable of predicting the possibility of rehab.

I don't think the "Crime and Punishment" analogy works in this case. (Though it is a good book to read to gain some general insight into how a "good" person can come to rationalize horrible acts.)

Raskolnikov was a monomaniac and had delusions of granduer. He was operating under a completely different mindset than these girls claim to. They claim to have not thought they would get away with it, while Raskolnikov's entire premise was that he was not bound by law. There are several other differences in what is claimed, but that's the big one.

Regardless of whether the girls are telling the truth or not (about their mindset), the nature of the act is something incompatible with Raskolnikov's delusion. These girls worked together. Raskolnikov couldn't have shared his plans with anyone or included anyone in the act, because the whole thing was his. It was his possessive view of the plans which eventually lead him to enact them... He was, or was compelled to see if he was, the "great man". A partner in the act, just by existing, would have broken the entire delusion.

As for the notion of it being "alien", sorry Kuci, but I find killing for a cell phone as alien to me as killing for curiosity. Maybe you should seek psychiatric help.
