No, but the good that Lincoln did outweighs my feelings about that.

On the other hand, he's the reason I have to share my country and government with people from the South, so maybe I should take him off the list.

Boo hoo hoo. Lincoln blows. He was a politician who benefited from not looking like a politician. A player of emotions, he would rather have let the time pass, which is the best that can be said about him.

So individual liberty exists only so long as it is convenient? What purpose do you believe such rights are supposed to serve if not to protect us in such situations?

            I've answered that already.

Hate the suspension of habeas, like Lincoln anyway. Hate the Japanese internment, like FDR anyway. Hate slavery, like Jefferson anyway. Hate imperialism, like TR anyway. Like the end of the cold war, hate Reagan anyway.

There. If I break it down into bite size bits like that, does that help?

              Can I vote?

My picks would be Harry Truman, and Woodrow Wilson.

Not all that fond of FDR. He got bailed out by the second world war.

The Truman Doctrine and the Marshall plan helped enormously after the second world war, and Wilson's 14 points was the precursor for the wave of free nations in the 1960's.
Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

The war on drugs => probably the main reason the US prison system now contains 2% of the working age population. (That's higher than China)
Ending the Cold War => I was unaware that Gorbachev was a Republican president
                      etc.

You of all people should be glad Bush isn't Lincoln. Anti-war Democrats got hauled before Military Commissions in his day.
True, but to be fair, they actually did have a real war back then.

Pretty much the same presidents everyone else mentioned including Nixon, though Nixon did some fairly bad things too.

I am proud to have voted against Reagan in every election he was in. I can give you a long list of vile things he inflicted on this country.

As for good things to say about him:
                        (a) He restored America's pride in itself after the self-doubt of the Vietnam debacle.
                        (b) He nailed the Soviet Union as the "Evil Empire."
                        (c) He broke the back of inflation (but one could argue about his method of doing so.)

What about the war on drugs, ending the Cold War...
We lost the war on drugs.
He didn't end the Cold War. The Soviet Union collapsed from its own internal rot.

I haven't had a party since 1998. Does that mean I get to pick from both parties?

                          If so (during my lifetime):

                          Reagan.

                          That is all.

When you misunderstand things it's usually an accident that leads to hilarity as it takes you a few pages to get the point. Why give you the benefit of the doubt?
