There is another effect that no one has been considering. The Boomer's money has already been going to them, as Boomer politicians have been stealing from SS for years to fund other programs.

Which means that for similar benefits, other taxes will have to go up, besides just the smaller group of people paying for more people to be retired than ever before.

So we would be looking at a 10+% raise in SS and a 5-10% raise in federal taxation. Giving us a total 20+% raise in taxes. For no increase in services.

3. It doesnt have to be voluntary. why should that matter? where in the SS system is there anything else that is voluntary.

If taking money away from young people and giving it to old people is wrong, then it is just as wrong to do the reverse.

How is this taking money away from old people? They paid into it to pay for their parents. They raided the extra for their own purposes. Then expect us (who are poorer and fewer than them) to pay for their extended retirement.

like miller said, they took away money from the trust fund and lowered the contributions to the trust fund. how is that our generations fault?

They didn't just hang on the coattails of the Greatest Generation; that would have been disappointing, but not really that terrible. No, during the 60's and 70's the Boomers actively set out to destroy everything their parents' generation had built. Then, once the 80's rolled around and they had completely ****ed society up, they did an about face and abandoned everything they had previously claimed to hold dear, transforming from a bunch of idealistic hippies into a bunch of greedy Yuppies. The only real constant for the Boomers was their ever-present self-absorption and sense of entitlement. Seriously, how can you not hate these moronic, narcissistic hypocrites?

are boomers not politicians? 25 years ago the last of the boomers were becoming eligable to run for office and in time since have elected more boomers to continue to raid the trust fund. at any point along the way boomers could have said, no, stop, this isnt gonna work, but what did they do? nothing or increased the problem.

regardless of hyperbole of boomer evilness, I still believe that it doesnt matter if you had a say in the matter or not, you have a choice to change the system, for the benefit of all to come after you.

this could be the boomer legacy, sacrificing now, so that every generation after you can benefit. wouldnt that be better than being the generation that raised spoiled brats out of laziness and ineptitude then screwed everyone and their as payback?

I appreciate this sentiment, but getting the Boomers to think about anyone other than themselves is a hopeless cause...

My suggestion to fix health care.

Remove all national health care benefits for people over 40.

Give national care for those under 18.

Give the choice of national care or private for those who are 18+.
