On a side note, I'd really love to see some poll data on Gen Xers views toward Baby Boomers. I used to think I was in the minority for despising them, but it seems to be a pretty widely held belief...

What age were baby boomers again? I think that my parents might be a bit too young. They were 20 or 21 in 1980.

I would agree with the position that Baby boomers are spoiled brats that act as if they made this country great while just hanging on the coattails of the preceding generation.

          I was in 1954 and I'm considered a boomer.
And the next few generations are so much better.

They're just at the tail end of the "baby boom" generation.

My parents were right at the start.

They didn't just hang on the coattails of the Greatest Generation; that would have been disappointing, but not really that terrible. No, during the 60's and 70's the Boomers actively set out to destroy everything their parents' generation had built. Then, once the 80's rolled around and they had completely ****ed society up, they did an about face and abandoned everything they had previously claimed to hold dear, transforming from a bunch of idealistic hippies into a bunch of greedy Yuppies. The only real constant for the Boomers was their ever-present self-absorption and sense of entitlement. Seriously, how can you not hate these moronic, narcissistic hypocrites?

I feel old - my parents are too old to be baby boomers. Just. Well, my dad is, my mum would count.

I don't have anything against a particular generation, and I don't think any single generation should suddenly have it's benefits cut entirely. I think benefits need to be eased down, and we need to understand that that means every generation has to get less out than they put in, to a certain extent. Most boomers won't, at least as current policies stand. And while I do agree with rah's sentiment that our generation doesn't care on behlaf of our generation, but for ourselves, even looking at it from an analytical, policy point of view, our generation is going to feel the brunt of it, purely through the demographics. As was said earlier: boomers didn't have enough babies to support them properly, thus those of us there are will be hit hardest.

                        • I was born in the closing months of the baby boom. Saved teh best for last, obviously.

                          • We should be better sadly we aren't.

I see the rationale behind cutting the benefits, but better that we keep them up as long as possible so that when it does fall apart it won't be possible to set it up back again.

Other options would be to encourage more people to save for their own retirement so that they won't be so dependent upon social security.
