And if you only make 1500 a month in SF and the rent goes up you have to either live there or move to Witchita, and this is what Flubber calls freedom.

Or find a better job in SF, yeah. Freedom isn't a free ride, dude.

You are in one of the most expensive real estate markets in the country, man. Of course rent is crazy high.

I hear Kansas is actually pretty nice, btw.

Don't you think they would have already got a better job if they could?

I don't live in Kansas or Califonia at the time. I don't want to say where I live because of my situation.

                1. A person has many many other choices

                2. Yes it is freedom and I like it. If you want to live on the "beach" you have to accept that a lot of people want that as well and the price will be high

If SF prices are too high -- people who do not like it should MOVE

I didn't like my wages in Newfoundland so I moved. NOw the fact that 20,000 people a year are making the same choice means that housing prices are going up radically here. And it will continue until the prices get to a point that fewer people want to move here and it moderates

Some of that is effort or lack thereof, Kid.

I could probably make more money if I tried. I haven't bothered, because I am content with my current job, don't need more money really and also because I'm lazy. But if I was under financial pressure, I'd be looking. Or I'd at least acknowledge that it's on me to try and cut expenses, increase income, or both.

I'm not saying it's easy. I'm thankful I'm in a good situation, financially. But no, I don't think that everyone who could get a better job has already done so.

That's true, but I think they are going to look before they move to Witchita.

THis is particularly true in booming cities. Here a "handyman" can charge a small fortune and get away with it due to demand.

Can everyone get a better job-- probably not-- Can most people do SOMETHING to improve their financial situation-- yes

Heck a lot of people I know that beeeyatch the most about their finances . . . do so while lighting one smoke off another--If they are spending $10 a pack for that stuff, my sympathy is limited for their financial woes

Again this have nothing to do with anything. People are still faced with the problem of high rent. Some people are lazy and some aren't, who cares?
