Just make sure you don't get the two activities mixed up.

Just the once and we all agreed that in retrospect, it worked out better than one would have thought.
Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Only a small, local negation, to be sure: only one species, and only a minority of that species; but there lies hope. [...] Stand tall, Bipedal Ape. The shark may outswim you, the cheetah outrun you, the swift outfly you, the capuchin outclimb you, the elephant outpower you, the redwood outlast you. But you have the biggest gifts of all: the gift of understanding the ruthlessly cruel process that gave us all existence [and the] gift of revulsion against its implications.
      -Richard Dawkins

I object to giving blood on principle.

I feel the world is overpopulated. Anything that helps save lives... I am against.
To us, it is the BEAST.

I'll donate blood for friends or family, but I have a problem donating to a company that turns around and sells my blood.

Especially when I get a cookie and some juice in return.

I did donate plasma for about a year.

But the needle, because they return the blood to you, is a LOT bigger and very uncomfortable.

Plus, it takes about an hour, and they never have any good movies.

          ACK!

I've donated blood before. The last time I did so was at the blood drive on campus.

Decent folks there but it took a long time about an hour to draw the blood. Not fortunate enough to have the big veins that other folks have here.

Felt woozy for a few days after but no bad effects.

I gave regularly when I was in the army and they came regularly to look for donors. But then the Berlin wall fell and the populace initially wasn't too friendly to us army officers. So I decided "you don't like me, you won't get my blood anymore" and refused from then on. As for now, I would give again, but I won't get out of my way to do it. If there'd be an opportunity nearby, perhaps.

I usually am a little weak for the rest of the day. By the next morning, I'm fine.

I've given blood and then gone and played volleyball that night w/o a problem. I tire out quicker, but I'm fine.

hmmm-- here its the Red cross that collects it and I don't think they ever sell it onward

I have never given. I tried years ago and was told that sicne I have Thalassemia, I would need a specific doctor's note specifying that I could give on a given day. That just sounded like too much of a pain but apparently they would not accept a generic note. I geuss I could have not revealed the condition but frankly I didn't have such a hyped up desire to do it anyway-- While I know its a very good thing to do, I was not unhappy to have a legitimate excuse to keep all my blood for me.

I don't know all the questions but if sex with a woman from Africa would be a disqualifier I would be out-- Is there any time limits (that was about 10 years ago)

                        1. I'm too lazy to do it.
                        2. I don't know my blood type.
                        3. I don't think I'm prohibited from donating blood, but so long as they're dead set against gays giving blood, I won't allow them to sap and (im)purify my precious bodily fluids.

It's not like they're dead set against gays giving blood for no reason. How many people died in the '80s thanks to gay blood?

I could do that I suppose, but the company that comes to my hospital for donations is just that - a company. They sell blood and tissue.
