DinoDoc, I didn't use to think this way. I have been convinced of it since 9/11 by everything I've seen.

I do not suggest that every Muslim is an anti-Semite (meaning anti-Jew), but I have seen enough to assume that most are.

Let me ask you, L, or anyone who wants to respond. If a Christian fundamentalist were running for president, would you be inclined to vote for or vote against him or her knowing nothing else about the person.

That's not really the appropriate question. It would be if Obama was a Muslim fundy. AFAIK, he's not. He has muslim heritage, but for all I know said heritage was liberal muslim, not fundy. Further, it's not the heritage that matters, it's his beliefs that matter.

Whereas when you say Christian fundamentalist, it gives us an idea of the views of the candidate him/ herself.

Right. Just knowing the person is a Christian fundy would incline one who favors abortion or legal drugs or the like to vote against the person without knowing what the person actually believes or says he believes on these issues. One who supports Israel and who supports bringing the Muslim world out of the Dark Ages would not be inclined to vote for a Muslim without more.

Kennedy had to overcome a lot of anti-caltholic prejudice in this regard when he was running for president. It was a MAJOR and recurring issue in the campaign. Despite his protestations to the contrary, the assumption that all Roman Catholics followed the edicts of the Vatican in all matters moral lingered.

But this is exactly why Obama's opponents are raising the NAME issue. It matters not one bit what Obama's actual position on Israel is, for example. If all one knows about Obama is his name or that his father was Muslim, that is enough.
