Yet high-profile misunderstandings continue. In late November, six Muslim imams were removed from a flight to Phoenix after some airline passengers grew concerned. It was just the latest incident in which passengers who were Muslim or, in some cases, simply not Caucasian, were questioned before boarding flights.
What these 6 imams did contributes to the fact that people associate Muslim with terrorist. And by defending them you're not doing yourself any favors.

What those 6 Imams did? You mean be critical of US foriegn policy and pray before the flight took off? OH NOES!!! TEH TERRORISM!

It's funny, this ad campaign has shown the prejudices of those Virginians, even though it wasn't meant to do so. I agree with KH, grow some balls people.

Muslim religious leaders removed from a Minneapolis flight last week exhibited behavior associated with a security probe by terrorists and were not merely engaged in prayers, according to witnesses, police reports and aviation security officials.

Face it, these guys did everything they could to draw attention to themselves as terrorists. And by trying to say that the airline's/passengers' reactions were the product of mere racism they are only supporting the next group to try and attack.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who read this as "Arabic scrip on the side of busses make Virgins wet their pants..."

Like I said before, the best bumper sticker I've seen in a while read:

"The Terrorists want us to be afraid. Bush shows them we are."

Substitute any number of irrational reactions by Americans to all manner of threats, real or perceived, for "Bush" and there ya go.

OH NOES! We can't have Muslims praying. That would be scary! And the Imams thought their seats were upgraded and sat in first class! What terrorist behavior! And seat belt extenders... that could be used to blow up the plane! And they were talking about politics... can't have Muslims talk about politics! That may upset some people.

Please... basically they are saying that if you are a Muslim, you shouldn't pray or talk about politics, or else they'll rough you up. Shameful.

there are what 800,000 people in greater Richmond? A couple of people called in? And then the org whose whole purpose was to talk about fear and xenophobia babbles on to the media about it? Cmon, I live in Northern Virginia, we've got people of every description, and all kinds of cultures, and no ones pissing in their pants.

And of course you guys just lap this up, cause its a chance to bash "fearful americans" and Bush, etc.

You think this is evidence of xenophobia, but for evidence of antisemitism nothing short of violent incidents will do, and thats shrugged off as exagerated by eevil neocons and zionists.

You shouldn't sit in the September 11th hijacker config astride all the exits either. They should move when directed to by the flight attendants. and they shouldn't cry foul when they are caught on all this. it would be something else if they said "oops sorry we just emulated a lot of terrorist behavior", but they ran immediately to scream racism.

Yeah, because they were brown and prayed to Allah (*gasp*) and talked about how the foriegn policy of the US sucked. It's good to know that if you are a Muslim on a plane, you are already treated like a criminal .

Why are you deliberately ignoring the fact that these men did everything they could to provoke a response including deliberately being in the wrong seats?

Wow... they sat in the wrong seats because they thought they'd been upgraded to first class. Apparently that's now a federal offense... being mistaken as to your seat and all.

So I shouldnt look for suspicious packages on the metro? Do you think Obamarama is going to cancel the FTA programs to encourage riders to look for suspicisous activity? When Bush is gone, we will still have a problem with terrorists, and we will be focusing on steps to stop them here. After all, thats the one thing both parties agree on right, its what we do abroad thats divisive.

Yeah, we "only lost" 3000 people on 9/11. And billions of dollars of real estate, and had the entire country shut down for a couple of days, and the national air space for several days. And the airport here was shut down for months. And oh yeah, that day we thought it could have been as many as 50,000 at the WTC, and we didnt lose the Capital building only cause of a handful of brave folks, and we thought there was a fifth plane. And no, its not the same as murders, which as someone whos living in Baltimore well knows, is something most Americans can avoid, or need fear only when their family lives fall apart. Geez, Im old enough to remember when Canada was torn apart by a goddamned pair of kidnappings. How many kidnappings have been recorded in Canada in the last 35 years, but those practically set the country into a civil war, and their political impacts are still being felt. And may yet cause Canada to cease to exist. Cause you know, a political attack, an aact of war, has meanings and implications beyond normal crime. You would think a goddamned physicist would be smart enough to understand that, but then the world is full of surprises.
