Judging by the numbers of units shipped Blu-Ray will lose out. It seems that is the way most standards wars go. Who ever ships the most units earliest gets the content providers and once the content providers put out the cash for one medium then it is over for the competiing standard.

Game glitches for PlayStation 3

There were huge queues when PS3 went on sale in Japan
Sony has admitted that some games designed for older PlayStation consoles are not working properly on the newly released PlayStation 3 (PS3).
The PS3 was supposed to be "backwards compatible", meaning it should run games written for PlayStation and PlayStation 2.
Sony said that the audio features do not work on some titles, while others have problems with the graphics.
It has offered to fix the PS3 problems via online upgrades for consoles.
Limited numbers
"We are aware that a select number of titles have compatibility issues but these problems will be fixed with a software upgrade that will be available in the near future," a Sony spokesman told the BBC News website.
Japanese newspaper Sankei has reported that the problems affect about 200 games sold for the original PlayStation and the PlayStation 2. Sony has declined to give numbers.
Games affected are believed to include Gran Turismo and Final Fantasy.

The console in action
Glitches of this nature are quite common when new consoles are released. Microsoft received complaints about scratched disks when it launched the Xbox, and other consoles have had compatibility issues.
The console is described by the firm as its most important strategic product of this year, and it is intended to go head-to-head with Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Nintendo's upcoming Wii console.
The PlayStation 3 was originally supposed to go on sale in early 2006, but production problems and shortages of key components forced a delay. The European launch of the console has been pushed back to March 2007.
This has also meant that there are only 100,000 consoles for gamers in Japan.
Sony said 400,000 will be available for the US launch on 17 November. Despite the shortages, Sony said it was confident of shipping six million PS3s by the end of March 2007.
To me, this is incredible. Sony took the lame route of having a PS2 embedded inside the PS3, had a long-ass development cycle, and they still can't get it to work.
Also, while Xbox 360 doesn't play all Xbox games (but it does play the good ones), it plays Xbox games upscaled to 720p with 4x FSAA. The PS3 will, at best, have it look exactly as it did on the PS2. When they figure out what they're doing.
"Better engineering"...if you knew what you were talking about, you'd see why MS' backwards compatibility through software emulation is far more of an engineering feat than Sony's lame excuse.

Apparently the PS3 can't interface with iPods either. If you plug it in you see a portable harddrive only.
Even MS' console can do that properly...

Asher, we all know BBC has been bought by Microsoft. Just look at its Zune coverage, such bull**** open marketing articles make me sick. Referring to British Bull**** Company news on technology issues is just desperate.
About blu-ray. Its going to prevail thanks to the tens of millions of PS3 consoles. Its superior to HD DVD in every possible way and most studios support it exclusively anyway.

I'm pretty sure you're just having fun now, given how ridiculous your post is...

Now which one looks like its actually been designed by professionals and not some 15 year olds for theirs first electronics school project.
The PS3 motherboards is simply just beautiful.
2) The games
PS3 and Xbox360(lower)
The photos tell how it actually is. PS3 looks far far more advanced and beautiful. Also it actually is in 1080p.
About the backwards compatibility. A guy in Japan tried over 1000 old PS2 games for PS3 and the success rate was 97%. Okay maybe its not the 100% Sony promised byt good enough.

Well, when you consider the capacitors are located on the bottom of the PS3 mobo, not the top like the 360...and when you consider the 360's shot has the pretty heatspreaders removed while the PS3 doesn't, I can see why you think that...
But it's incorrect. And if you look at the design and actual engineering jobs, the PS3 has some real flaws (like a 5 MB/s bandwidth from Cell to RSX).

I can't see the picture.
Compare Gears of War to Resistence -- both flagship shooter titles, and GoW stomps Resistence...

Yeah, it's only a couple minor games like Final Fantasy and Gran Turismo not working...
It's obvious you've no clue what you're talking about. Especially how you keep hammering the 1080p point, which has already been debunked...

I imagine most of those Blu0Ray titles are from Sony's own library. That was why they bought a movie studio to begin with. After the VHS vs BetaMax standard war Sony decided that the best way to insure its future standards win was to own the content and force it to use Sony standards. That way they could roll out large amounts of content right away and not wait for other companies to deicde which standard they wanted to support (and possibly choose the other standard).
Let's see in 6 months once Sony has run out of titles and the other studios have to decide which format to release their videos on. Of course, they could contract out production to one company for each standard though I'm sure that won't work since the companies making DVDs normally want to be exclusive in their contracts.
And you say 25, but from the reports from Japanese magazines who did testing, they say 200...
Including Final Fantasy and Gran Turismo...

You're comparing Ridge Racer 6 (Xbox 360) to Ridge Racer 7 (PS3)? Oh, you can't be serious...
First of all, the RR6 capture from the 360 is blurry (not a framebuffer capture like the PS3 above). Second of all, it's clear the PS3 version doesn't utilize high-dynamic range lighting (HDR). Third of all, RR7 had over a year more development time for optimization than RR6 did...
