    Do you have a quote and link to this provision?

    As stated above, I would prefer not to see an ND-Michigan rematch. It seems at least slightly unfair to Michigan to have to have to beat a team that they have already beaten. On the other hand, an ND-Michigan rematch would be better than an OSU-Michigan rematch.
    I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

      5. After completion of the selection process as described in Paragraph Nos. 1-4, the Conferences and Notre Dame may, but are not required to, adjust the pairings taking into consideration the following:

      A. whether the same team will be playing in the same bowl game for two consecutive years;
      B. whether two teams that played against one another in the regular season will be paired against one another in a bowl game;
      C. whether the same two teams will play against each other in a bowl game for two consecutive years; and
      D. whether alternative pairings may have greater or lesser appeal to college football fans as measured by expected ticket sales for the bowls and by expected television interest, and the consequent financial impact on Fox and the bowls.

      The other bowls may look at 5.B. and say we want to prevent two teams from playing so soon after they just played each other in the regular season. The Rose, of course, would say 5.D., it'll sell a great number of tickets and have huge television interest, etc...

      Though generally the bowls don't like rematches of regular season games and it is generally thought ratings will be lower for them (unless it was a down to the wire type of thing).

      I do think 5.D. would equally apply for the Fiesta, but since it is well down the list, it wouldn't matter. If Florida wins the SEC, the Sugar has a better argument under 5.D. as Florida is a more glamorous school than Arkansas.

      But 5.B. does give the bowls the power if they choose so, to change up things based on the fact the teams played in the regular season.

        • It looks like you are right. On the other hand, I doubt 5.C. would be invoked on an OSU-ND championship game, f.e.

              Yeah, they wouldn't dare touch the national championship game, when the whole goal of the BCS was for the #1 to meet the #2 (and they are probably contractually not allowed to do so in the actual contract among the conferences and ND), but everything else is fair game.

                There's a lot of coaching turnover during a horrible, horrible football year for this conference.

                            • Imran, that's not humility. It's a lack of faith in the power of the gods.
