there are two parties, the ins and the outs. When people like the way things are they vote for the ins. when they dont, they vote for the outs.

Yep, I did. Unfortunately, I find most of my voting tends to be for the lesser of two evils (Clinton, Gore, Kerry, Casey) rather than candidates I actually like. And in this case, even my sharp disagreement with Casey on social issues was trumped by my absolute loathing of Santorum. But if Casey had been running against Specter rather than Santorum, I'm not sure how I would have voted.

Do you have all the statistics that show whether or not it was the same people who voted Democratic who also voted in favor of discrimination and second-class citizenship?

No, I'm assuming that if enough people voted to vote in Democrats, there were also enough who could vote for Gay rights. It just kind of made sense to me.

I would suspect that Independents tipped the Gay Marrage measures to pass whial at the same time voting Democrate out of disatisfaction with the present Administration. Many of the Independents are what they are adsactly because they find themselves in these of Fiscal/Social splits between the parties.

Also there were many Republicans who were pissed off with the Bush Administrator for Iraq, spending so much, etc. that they preferred gridlock in government (nothing much gets done on spending because both sides may want to spend more, but on different things) but weren't fond of gay marriage.
