I disagree with the satement that MrFun has a special insight about the meaning of being black/slavery because of him being gay.

I have knowledge about our country's history of race relations because of my special area of interest -- the Civil War period and Reconstruction. I have been reading and writing about this period for about four years now.
Imran pointed out the fact that I belong to some other minority group -- being gay, I didn't point that out. But on the other hand, being a member of any minority group definitely gives me a different perspective than I would otherwise have.
A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.

I agree that you know more about US History than the rest of us because that is your area of study. You are an "Industry Expert" basically now, and people are fools to just throw away your statements without basis.
I not originally understood what I was commenting on, but then changed it to reflect my thoughts.
The mirror of being part of the gay minority reflects but poorly, as gays were never slaves/etc.

Jon speaks truth. The gay portion of your identity holds little water for me in these discussions. The fact that you can speak on an informed basis due your academic training does. Realize though that does set you up for commentary of academia vs. real life discussions and further academia circa 1860-1880 vs. present day real life wrt racial attitudes.

Obviously you deserve a massive PCR for all that spam.

Hey, they let Comrade Tassadar get away with it... why not me?

MrFun doesn't know jack****. He reads prejudicial accounts on the state of the South, and passes it on as fact, without personally having seen a thing.
I'll tell you how you can know the world is messed up. I'll use a few things as examples.
The term "reverse discrimination" being one. WTF is that? Discrimination is discrimination. No reverse to it.
We have ads that cite "those with discriminating tastes".
What?
Now, some people raise a fuss over Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn. I await the day when Wizard of Oz is yanked from circulation due to a discrimination against munchkins or Gay acting lions.

He also hates Texans and Australians, he does diversify." ~ Braindead
Reverse discrimination is an assinine term, it's true.
Surely you know what "discriminating tastes" means, Sloww. Come on.
Some people make an isssue of Huck Finn... ok... some people take issue with Catcher in the Rye or any number of other books they don't like for whatever reason (usually religion, but I'm sure there are other reasons). Neither are right. Huck Finn just has to be understood in the context of when it was written.
You've already drawn a line saying that MrFun can start slamming all the South.
I'm not really even in the South, as Mrs. Tuberski tried pointing out. Texas considers itself separate from all, and the Stars and Bars is more generally associated with Alabama, Mississippi, or Georgia.
Did you watch Dukes of Hazzard? Popular show, and in more than just those 3 states, despite the horrid viewing of that same flag.
Did anyone whine about Daisy Duke? No, she was curvaceous and had her ass hanging out. Never mind that99% of women in the world are no Daisy Duke.
People complain when it's convenient.

It is interesting that he hasn't linked to these promises. Furthermore, if Seward did promise evacuation, I wonder if Lincoln adopted them. After all, back then, inaugeration was in April and the firing on Sumpter was on April 12.
A number of books refer to Seward's promise, but I can't find any online sources. You should check out "The Rise and Fall of the Confederate Government" by Jefferson Davis.
I see this thread is about to die, so if you want to discuss civil war matters further I suggest you start another thread.

Sloww, this is kind of why people cry strawman at you... Arrian shows the truth, and yet the persistance of the "MrFun is anti-South" crap. Come back when you have an actual argument Sloww.

Other than that, keep on posting. It's near 500.
When he starts another one, you can make note of the fact he's a hater mongering little twit, that upon examination is a very sad little fellow with no life.
