Today, you are the waves of the Pacific, pushing ever eastward. You are the sequoias rising from the Sierra Nevada, defiant and enduring.

            • He's a dumbass. Everyone on that fleet is essentially under his command, not just the deck workers. Baltar is 100% correct about the way the fleet is turning out because it is no place for a democracy. He can't divest himself from the leadership position he holds, so it is incumbent upon him to not be said dumbass. And if the concept of the exploding refinery of doom is too much for him to handle...

by the way, did that kid get his thumb ripped off or was it just a flesh wound?

Well, anyone watching just KNEW he was going to lose at least a finger the way the writers set up that scene. I got closer to my TV screen just before it happened to see what in particular the injury was going to be. It flashed by quickly, but it almost looked like his forearm was ripped in half (double fracture) because there was a great deal of blood on that part of his sleeve. If you lose a finger, your first instinct is to cradle the injured hand with your good hand, not your forearm.

That's a little too generous. They aren't THE sh*t, they're just sh*t. And I've yet to be able to see any of the content they supposedly offer online immediately after each episode for a short time. After tonight's, not interested anymore.

Catch-22. Do you take the line down to run routine maintenance and give the workers a break and run the risk of not having enough fuel to escape if the cylons show up? Or do you keep the line going and run the risk of catastrophe due to human or mechanical failure?

I'm not surprised he'd want the fuel.

                      • take the line down, no question. If not for what the kid did they'd be minus a refinery right now.

                            • The episode gives me a feeling that the whole Baltar trial may very well backfire on the Admiral and the President.

We saw that Baltar is trying to strike a cord with the common people. Baltar is a charismatic person and quite accomplished at saying whatever benefits him. We know that his book speaks about aristocracy, double standards, etc. We can also assume that in it Baltar defends his actions as President during the New Caprica occupation. He probably says that he had no say in what was going on (which is true), that he was forced to sign orders at gunpoint (true) and that, had he refused at any point, the Cylons would just find someone else (true as well). That might be well enough to convince the common people that he is, at worst, guilty of a few bad calls.

Now, the episode also showed that the fleet's workers aren't exactly enamored with Roslin and Admiral Adama. And it makes sense, too - there are people on Colonial One and Galactica who know them well, but most of the fleet has no personal relationship with either leader. They're much more likely to be friendly with another "common man" (like the Chief) or someone who they see as another victim of the aristocracy's leadership - and that seems to be where Baltar is going.

And if Baltar gains public support, the trial is going to be a real pain. People will say how Roslin essentially got appointed President, not elected, after the exodus, they will refuse to work again, refuse to resupply Galactica, and so Roslin and Adama may find themselves in a situation where they can't execute Baltar for treason because they will then face a strike on every civilian ship.
