  • Wouldn't the nav information he was going to give them before he discovered the ruse had been worth some consideration?

          • The survivor count went up by two from the last episode, I love the attention to detail.

The episode had two halves, the other was a really exciting sequence as the colonials interrogated Baltar, you had turmoil, dream sequences, references to waterboarding and Hussein and a botched hanging to top it all off.

The other had me half asleep and bored to tears. Gods, I hope we're done with the love quadrangle for the time being, because I just don't give a damn about Lee, Starbuck, Anders and Dee when you've got Hera, Baltar's upcoming trial, Caprica Six in the Fleet, the search for Earth, the Final Five and Gaeta's secret in the background. And we're stuck with the soap opera subplot. I cringed every time there was a cut from Baltar to Lee. "I've lost my rank!" was a kind of "Yes indeed" moment though. Clever, and I still managed to find enough empathy for him to feel pity and shame.

            • No Gaeta's secret . According to the podcast, what Baltar said was a reference to a removed storyline, and there's no deeper meaning to this. Well, unless they decide to come up with one later.

I felt sorry for the damn weasel Baltar, though. Adama's "godly voice from the heavens" was interesting.

And it's unfortunate there's nothing behind the secret, it was intriguing.

                • Yeah, there's nothing behind the secret now - since nothing was explicitly said, there's nothing keeping the writers from coming up with some secret for Gaeta in the next season and then tie it in to Baltar's whisper.

                  • Gaeta's secret: His gay love tryst with Lee and Anders. In the same bed. At the same time. Why do you think Dee is so put off and Starbuck is all, "Hells yeah! Bartender, give me another shot 'cause I'm going in..."

                      • Gaeta's a Cylon.

                        Totally.
Today, you are the waves of the Pacific, pushing ever eastward. You are the sequoias rising from the Sierra Nevada, defiant and enduring.

                        • Baltar's such an interesting character.

The whole situation with his trial is also interesting. As seen in the last ep, Baltar's excuse for everything that happened on New Caprica is that he was forced to do all that stuff by the Cylons. While true, it probably wouldn't hold any ground as a defense in a real court - similar defense has been tried at Nuremberg, and not to much success. The interesting thing here is, it really would not have mattered had Baltar refused to cooperate or to sign that death warrant - the Cylons would've shot him and found a President that was willing to collaborate (or just kill everyone if they couldn't).

Baltar's reasoning for helping the Cylons when he was on their basestar is similar, and in fact, it has even less of an excuse than his actions as President. On the basestar, Baltar's life was threatened, so he went ahead to help the Cylons. But if on New Caprica, had Baltar resisted, the Cylons indeed could have found another President, there was nothing like that on the basestar. If Baltar refused to help the Cylons there, he'd be dead, but the Cylons wouldn't be able to just fine another Baltar to help them.

It's also curious how Caprica Six will probably testify against Baltar - it's funny if the President and the Admiral decide to trust her testimony, given that she's a Cylon and there are always some, uh, trust issues with Cylons.

                          • Just watched the episode, and i'll just get my biases out first, I really like boltar's character. He was elected president before the cylon occupation and was pretty much forced to be their puppet the whole time. Has he at any point shown a desire to execute people? He's not Jesus, despite the similarities visually, but he's not a bad guy, just a bit selfish maybe.

I'm not sure what gaeta's secret was, out of them all I thought he would be the most understanding but no he tries to kill him! Guess maybe gaeta signed a few death warrents too, i dunno.

I didn't think Boltar would be a good pres, I didn't even want him to be vice pres, and I like Gaeta's character too so this was one of the best episodes ever for me. When I really passionately disagree with what's happening on screen, especially when it's unexpected it just makes me wish the next episode was on NOW.

                              • Seems mostly a backstory ep (on Adama) and Chief and Cally getting stuck behind an airlock.

Maybe the Adama storyline will reveal something interesting (OH NOES!! ADAMA IS A CYLON!!1!)?
