I'm not professional baseball player. I'd imagine most players could get a foul ball out of it, which is the only thing you'd ask. It wasn't a good strikeout pitch (maybe good for strike 1). Pitcher got lucky it wasn't a foul ball. I'll give him credit if it was a nasty pitch... it wasn't.

AFTER the fact, yes, he's probably considering suicide over it.

Did as it was intended because Beltran screwed up .

It's like throwing a hanging breaking ball for a strikeout. Pitch does as intended, but it was very lucky that it does so.

Pitchers don't all have the same mastery over all pitches.
You know that, too. You're just arguing for the sake of arguing.

Of course pitchers do not have the same mastery over pitches, but that one went through in the middle of the strikezone. With 2 outs and the game over if a strike is called, Beltran had to at least try to get the wood on the ball to foul it off, even if he thinks its going to be a foot high. If he struck out swinging it would have been better than what he actually did (at least he'd know what his job was).

An out is an out.
By the time he could see it sinking he had about 30 feet (and likely less than that but we'll say 30 feet just to give you some credibility) to swing at a ball coming in at 95 mph. That's not my estimation. That was clocked.

30 feet, Imran. 10 yards. I'm not even going to take the time to do the math on how little time a ball travelling 95 mph covers 10 yards takes. Not much.

You give batters way too much credit, and not enough to the pitcher.

Watch the pitch again, Sloww. You are trying to make this into a Wang nasty as hell sinker. It wasn't. You can throw numbers all you want, the fact is that hitters have hit sinker pitches in the past. You are trying to make it seem like sinkers can never be hit ever . Why throw anything else then?

The batters' job is to hit pitches. They are familiar with when they are supposed to break. At the least, Beltran has to get the bat off his shoulder in a situation like that.

It was a good pitch. Like I said already, not the first he struck out with it, but the last.

No need to compare him to another pitcher. He did his job.
If one fastball pitcher throws 100 but another one throws 101, is that really that big a deal to you?
