I care infinitely more about the policies supported by the House leadership than their regulation of the personal conduct of their members (except in cases like bribery, which effects policy). It just doesn't interest me.

I'm pretty sure Ramo was using the word should in the sense of "even if this conduct were illegal, I would support removing that law because such a law would be morally wrong" (probably because it's likely to cause more harm than good)."Beware of the man who works hard to learn something, learns it, and finds himself no wiser than before. OH NOES! That means that he never criticizes any Democrats at all unless they are too far to the right!
As for this, the reasl scandal isn't Foley, which I just find amusing. The real scandal is that the GOP House leadership has been sitting on this for at least two years and that they were still trying to engage in a cover-up as of Friday.
I think Foley is creepy, and he reminds me of someone who hit on me in chuch when I was a kid. Maybe I'm not being entirely fair, but I do think it's different than Clinton and Lewinsky. For what its worth, Lewinski was legally an adult, who had finished college, as opposed to a high-school boy.
Furthermore, while it hurts the GOP, it's a godsend to the White House, who would otherwise have to be looking to fire Secretary Rice for a real scandal.Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

This scandal has more staying power than I thought. Still on the front page above the fold in the WaPo. I have to think this can't last, but...I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Or, say, more information comes out about the leadership knowing about it and not doing anything?“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

No, I still think it will have limited impact at the polls, unless the scandal finds new legs. Like other congressmen doing the same thing, or Foley having sex with these kids, etc. The front pages eventually will turn to something else.

On NPR, the people they were talking to said it wouldn't stop them from voting GOP, cuz even if it's a problem in the GOP leadership, their GOP representitives are still good, decent, God fearing Christians. Golly!
Couldn't we have a Starr Report into these shenanigans, too ?
Seems only fair.
If the Republicans could get so worked up about Clinton and Lewinsky engaging in consensual heterosexual sex, then I'm sure they should be concerned at the conduct of one of their own using his position of authority to engage in uninvited salacious sex talk with male teenagers serving, ah, under him.
But Foley declared the topic of his sexuality off-limits to the magazine and the public: "Frankly, I don’t think what kind of personal relationships I have in my private life is of any relevance to anyone else."
Aren't there laws relating to harassment by email in the U.S.A. ?
I wonder if Mr. Foley likes wrestling movies too...Vive la liberte. Noor Inayat Khan, Dachau.

But just as interesting will be what if any culpability the Demonrats have:
Yesterday, eleven Republican Congressmen sent letters to Nancy Pelosi, Howard Dean and Rahnm Emanuel, asking them to cooperate with the House Ethics Committee's investigation by appearing before the Committee and giving testimony under oath. The letters say, in part:We fully agree that anyone with knowledge of Foley's activities, who then attempted to conceal such activities, should be held accountable. Today, the bipartisan Ethics Committee announced that they will be conducting a complete investigation of the facts surrounding the case.
We support this decision and also believe that the seriousness of this goes beyond partisan politics and hope that you will join us in demonstrating full cooperation from your Members and and political operatives as this investigation continues to unfold.
Just as it must be determined whether any Republican Members or political operatives were aware of and attempted to conceal Mr. Foley's activities, it must also be determined whether any Democrat Members or political operatives were aware of, and attempted to conceal these same activities.
Therefore, we respectfully ask that you appear, under oath, before the House Ethics Committee.
