Exactly. It sounds like putting your head in the sand to claim this fallout won't extend beyond the district. When it appears that Foley's actions have been covered up for a while now by the family values folks, there will be some fallout.

Especially when you consider in many races around the country, Republicans have been running ads saying Democrats are 'too soft' on child molesters, letting them go too early from jail and what not.

          Wasn't that in the 1970's?

This will likely have a wide fallout. Any candidate that has based their campaign on slamming Dems on their child protection record could see a bit of a backlash. . .. particularly if this guy's habits were as widely known as it seems they were

The problem with this thought is that these aren't national races. If it's still an issue 2 weeks from now on a national level, I would be surprised.

Dude Dan, you're insane. The media will ignore all sorts of horrible **** that the Republicans do, but it won't ignore a sex scandal involving a Congressmen and kids. With what looks like a cover up from the House leadership to avoid having to expend resources defending a competitive seat. Even Republicans (i.e. Shays and Wilson) have called for the resignation of anyone in the House leadership who knew about this. The principals in the coverrup look mightily weakened. Reynolds was already facing a competitive race, and this could very well sink his chances. Shinkus (sp?), who appears extremely complicit, might become vulnerable. And I wouldn't be all that suprised if Hastert's very seat comes into play (depending on how the story playes out). Nationally, the Dems get a big boost because this demoralizes the religious right, perhaps negating the GOP edge in GOTV infrastructure. The Democrats couldn't dream up a better scandal.

You'll be able to demonstrate that in a couple of weeks, apparently.

In the meantime, I'll believe that my level of sanity is no worse than normal.

Yep, Ramo... the media LOVES sex scandels. They'll run with this for a while.
