      Thanks Lori

How about "People have a tendency to believe what they want to believe?"
Kids ask a lot of "whys" and I don't have any of the answers as far as religion goes. I'd rather them be a non-believer than a skeptic.

Nobody has the religion answers. Kids have to learn that some questions don't have answers.

And since religion was invented to answer unanswerable questions, you're in a non-ending U-turn.

I told my son that Santa Claus wasn't real this last Christmas. He didn't believe me. He said, "why did I get all the presents I asked for?" So I showed him all the letters he wrote to Santa. Man, I'm cold sometimes.

No, because on answer sends you back to the other...that send you back to the first one.

So its a never ending U-turn.

One thing I've wondered for sometime now is; If God is God, and God is Lord, why the heck do people say Jesus is their lord and savior? I get the savior bit, but am confussed on the whole heirarchy.

Did God give Jesus, his son, to the people to rule over them and then step aside? If so, then why do people still even bother with God?
Two answers to this. We are told that when Jesus returns that he will rule over the earth and all the dominions therein. Hence the admission that Jesus is Lord. This is why the Nicene Creed says, "his kingdom will have no end."

Yet at the same time, God the Father is still God over everything while Christ is seated at the right hand of his throne in Heaven.

Secondly, there is the part that Elok was referring to about the Trinity. You have three persons in one Godhead, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The Father is God, the Son is God and the Holy Spirit is God. All are eternal, existing before all worlds; the Son is begotten of the Father while the Holy spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son.

The reason we use words like 'father' and 'son' is by way of analogy. The relationship between God the Father and Christ is closest to the relationship between a father and a son. Both are of the same substance as one another, just as your children are human beings because they inherit this from you, the same is between Christ and God the Father.

Anyway, thank god I'm not Catholic; I wouldn't be able to figure out the whole idol worship thing of theirs, what with all the saints. Never understood the whole worshiping of Mary thing either.

Well if you are interested, the saints are just people like anyone else who lived holy lives and have been taken up into heaven already. They are no different then you or I. As for Mary, she is blessed through her Son, just as we are and given special blessings for being the theotokos, or God bearer. When Christ became incarnate, he did so of his Mother Mary, which is why she is honoured by Christians.

Catholics also believe three additional things, her assumption, immaculate conception and her sinlessness. They believe that because she was the Mother of God, that Christ honoured her by keeping her free of sin, hence her sinlessness through her life, her immaculate conception to keep her free of original sin and her bodily assumption, since she was free of sin, and the wages of sin are death. Since she did not sin, she could not die.

I think you are doing a very good thing for your daughter. I wish I had parents who had done the same for me when I was younger since I feel that I've missed out on so much.

There are lots of books out there that are for parents who aren't sure how to answer the questions that their children have about God, and I'm sure there are other parents in the congregation you can speak to.

Having the whole family out together on Sundays for church is a great blessing. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help, feel free to send me a pm whenever you want.

My parents are not religious at all.
Yet they introduced me to catholicism as a kid because it's part of our family and cultural history around here.

I even did my first whatever (dont remember name) when I was around 9-10 etc...

I had to figure out for myself a bit later that I didn't really want to be involved in any of this, which is better I think that being forced an atheist as a kid, which is no better than being forced to be religious, like many ppl are.

Also I totally agree about the comment that parents have to make their kids do many things they don't want to do, to open up their horizon.
Examples : sports, art show, music, etc...

Japher, please don't indoctrinate your daughter with such nonsense. Give a proper upbringing with affection and the right amount of discipline...don't try and make up for it with brainwashing...

Well this thread is for Japher so I don't want to get into this point here. Better if we take this to another thread.
