You asked where the hurricanes went last year - the answer is El Nino.

I'm telling you guys, when the middle to higher latitudes are warmer there's less "pressure" on the planet to re-distribute heat. If El Ninos (warmer waters in the E Pacific) inhibit hurricane production in the Atlantic, then warmer waters in the E Pacific due to "global warming" regardless of what you call the cycle will inhibit hurricane production in the Atlantic.

Well, maybe the hurricanes found out that NASA has messed up their temperature measurements - 1998 is only the second hottest year in US - 1934 are still at the top

That chart is actually quite interesting - it seems that before 1930 the temperature consequently was lower than normal.

I think that's because of the Victorian era, when no one was having any sex. The chilling effects lingered for decades after Queen Victoria's death. It was only with the invention of the flapper than the Earth's temperature began to return to normal.
