Attention whore? TO is obviously a depressed individual or bipolar. From all reports, off the field, he's generally a solitary person who doesn't hang out with many people or have many friends. It seems he acts out when he's "in character" as compensation for his own insecurities or depression.

My suspicion is that ESPN probably is trying to avoid presenting something as potentially damaging as 'suicide attempt' without being 100% certain, and even suggesting it was possible would do a lot of damage ... so instead they're posting that 'something' happened but avoiding the damaging information until it's 100% certain.

Something I wish other journalists would do ... (though they probably should've just said "had a reaction to pain medication" and dropped off the allergic part...)

I want to know what sort of pain medication we're talking about here. Five Tylenol, for example, ain't no suicide attempt. But it's a prescription drug, so...

Yeah... sometimes journalists jump the gun... do incredible harm, and then shrug it off as "stuff happens"... And it does look like the report from the AP appeared after I was listening early this morning.

ESPN is now strongly going with the suicide attempt story...

ESPN went so far as saying that he has had alergic reaction in the past to pain killers. hmmmm. I wonder if this translates to he's tried to kill himself before.

He's probably on codeine-based pain killers, given the broken finger and such.

Now, if he had five codeine-related pills, probably not going to kill you, but what it WOULD do is cause him to be unable to understand questions asked of him ...

The only thing that makes me think this is possibly suicide is if he were *still taking* pills when the ambulance got here. Though even then, if he's out of it enough, he could have just been thinking 'ooh it hurts, lets take medicine to fix it' ...

Codeine is really, really effective at taking away your ability to reason ...

True... it is "possible" that he was sooooooo out of it, that he really had no clue what he was doing or saying, and maybe it wasn't a suicide attempt... But the media is now totally running with the suicide angle.

Yeah ... though the way the police guy they just interviewed was going on, I think there was something odd about that. Though he was obvoiusly someone who steeled himself to doing the press conference in an exact way.

Well, according to the AP report, the attempt consisted of taking 35 pills out of a bottle that held 40.

My guess is Vicodin, although Ty3 or Ty4 would also be a common prescription.

ESPN's reporting of the "allergic reaction" has been tracked to "the athlete's agent and publicist." That would be Drew Rosenhaus.

I don't think this was a "drama queen antic." I think it was a suicide attempt. It may have been caused by any number of things, but my guess is that it was, in fact, a spiral of poor reasoning and depression, quite likely caused by painkillers.

In all honesty, if he is have mental issues I hope he gets them sorted out and that he plays again... because he is a great WR.
